90 Day Fiancé: Miona Confirms Her Ethnicity After Blackfishing Scandal

Franchise newcomer Miona revealed her ethnicity after 90 Day Fiancé fans accused Jibri Bell’s partner of practicing blackfishing. 23-year-old Miona hails from Nis, Serbia according to the TLC show. 28-year-old Jibri, frontman of the band Black Serbs met Miona while he was on one of his usual tours to her country. Miona gave Jibri butterflies in his stomach and she also said yes to his proposal during a romantic Thai getaway. But makeup artist Miona wanted to come to America to work in Los Angeles, and Jibri disappointed her by moving to South Dakota before Miona’s arrival on the K-1 visa.
Miona’s clothes were heavily criticized by Jibri’s mom Mahala in 90 Day Fiancé season 9 premier episode. Mahala ridiculed Miona by saying she was practically naked on social media. Jibri’s mom told the producers that Miona was dressing in a certain way to attract sexual attention which in turn made the matriarch uncomfortable. Jibri defended Miona’s Instagram behavior by claiming that the half-naked pictures are just a part of her social media persona. But it wasn’t Miona’s clothes that bothered viewers. Photos of Miona from years ago are being compared to her recent pictures, and fans saw noticeable differences in Miona’s skin tone, lips, and hair.
Miona has been accused of blackfishing, a controversial practice by which a person changes their style or appearance to present themselves as Black. However, Miona has responded to her 90 Day Fiancé critics by declaring that she is a proud Serbian who loves her country and people, as she was born and raised there. “I thought there is no need to clarify this because in my country we don’t nonchalantly abuse other people without knowing anything about them,” the new 90 Day Fiancé star told her Instagram followers. Moreover, Miona also clarified that she not only has Serbian genes but also has “both Mexican and Middle Eastern background” as per a DNA test. “But I will always represent myself as Serbian because that’s my culture,” Miona added.

“My parents survived a couple of wars on Yugoslavian soil! So don’t even dare to think you know me because you saw me on reality TV for 3 minutes,” Miona said as she explained the things her parents and ancestors have endured in the past. Miona posted a photo of the Traditional hairstyles from the Pomak village of Startsevo in the Smolyan region of Bulgaria. As per California-based make-up expert Miona, her now 87-year-old grandma taught her how to braid her hair, and her dad helped her perfect it. In a different photo, Miona added a 100-year-old image of a Serbian woman with a hairstyle called the “vitice” and commented, “My people were always beautiful!!!!!”
Meanwhile, Jibri has revealed that Miona is getting death threats. He wants viewers to stop the hate towards Miona and show her love via her Instagram comments and DMs instead. Jibri feels that the industry is already harsh on women and Miona being bullied online is making her feelings of insecurity worse. However, it’s not just the apparent blackfishing that has made 90 Day Fiancé fans skeptical of the beautiful couple. In an interview with a Serbian news outlet from June 2020, Jibri referred to Miona as his wife, which has made fans believe the couple has been married for years and are faking their storyline for TV.
