When does Amazon Prime Day Kindle trading start?

Amazon has data on annual sales close to its heart. That said, we don’t know yet when official Prime Day Kindle deals will start. However, it’s worth noting that over the past two years Amazon has had a pretty tight schedule until it gets its hands on one. We traditionally see Prime Day in the middle of July. But last year, things were moved slightly forward to June. In 2022, we expect Prime Day Kindle trading to return to normal around Monday, July 11th or 18th.

Do I need Prime to trade on Amazon Prime Day Kindle?

You must have an active Amazon Prime subscription to participate in the official Prime Day Kindle deal. But even if you are not yet a subscriber, there is a ray of hope. That’s because Amazon regularly offers free trials of its Prime service before the official sale. If you time it right, you can explore the entire range without paying a dime.

30-day free trial of Amazon Prime

30-day free trial of Amazon Prime

You can already opt for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime. Of course, this offer won’t lead to the expected July sales, but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

See suggestions

You’ll be able to browse Amazon’s Prime Day Kindle deals for free, as well as other retailers coming along during the summer. We often see stores like Walmart, Best Buy and Target in the US (Currys, Very and Argos in UK) compete with online retail giants with their own sales during this period. In addition, we regularly match prices on Amazon’s own listings and sometimes offer additional gift cards or other value-added items for free.

What to expect from Prime Day Kindle deal 2022

  • Kindle | $89.99 $49.99 | £69.99 £39.99
  • Kindle Paperwhite | $139.99 $89.99 – $104.99 | £129.99 £79.99 – £99.99
  • Kindle Oasis | $269.99 $195 | £229.99 £169.99

The Amazon Prime Day Kindle deal is the best time to buy a new eReader. Because you can often see these devices drop to all-time lows for annual sales. Amazon likes to discount its own devices during this period, and in 2022 you can expect a lot of savings on the latest Kindle models. But aside from that, you’ll see free trials of Kindle Unlimited and Audible often packaged with eReaders.

Amazon Kindle

The standard Kindle (usually $89.99 / £69.99) has already broken its previous Prime Day prices in 2022, which bodes well for great deals coming. Although it dropped to $54.99/£49.99 last summer, the base model already retails for $49.99 in the US (January) and starts at £39.99 (April) in the UK (January). But despite less impressive sales, the device regularly sells for $59.99 / £49.99, which is just $5 more than last year’s Prime Day Kindle deal.

We expect the standard Kindle to return for the summer at record prices, available for $49.99/£39.99.

Kindle Paperwhite

Kindle Paperwhite

The Kindle Paperwhite is a slightly different story. With new models coming out (larger screens, smaller bezels, warm screen tones, and USB-C charging), real discounts are stepping on the water before they hit the market. However, we expect the price of the 2021 model to drop slightly during this year’s Prime Day Kindle deal. Finally, we’ve already seen the MSRP of $139.99/£129.99 in March hit an all-time low of $104.99, a price previously only found on Black Friday. The latest version also regularly drops below £100 in the UK and is available for £99.99 during the February, March and April sales period.

Those prices could give you a bigger discount on official Prime Day Kindle deals this year. The new release will be celebrating its first birthday this summer, saving even more money. We anticipate price ranges of between $89.99 – $104.99 in the US and £79.99 – £99.99 in the UK based on previous year’s offers.

However, if you’re looking for a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (with more storage space, automatic lighting adjustments, and Qi charging), you might want to keep an eye on the lowest price we’ve seen so far, around $145 / £149.99. Found it. We’ve seen the $189.99 / £179.99 RRP for this upgraded model drop a few times since it launched in September, so we’ll wait for the official Prime Day Kindle deal here for more inspiration.

Kindle Oasis

Kindle Oasis

Kindle Oasis is Amazon’s answer to e-Reader luxury. However, with a starting price of $269.99 / £229.99, it is more expensive than some full tablets. This top-of-the-line model reached $195 during its previous Prime Day sales period, and has since returned to that position on Black Friday, although the price is a bit stronger. In the UK, things are a little more optimistic. It found an all-time low of £169.99 during the November sales period, but didn’t actually return to the selling price until April. But aside from these discounts, the Kindle Oasis is available for around £179.99 so far this year.

How much does a Kindle cost on Prime Day?

We expect the cheapest of this year’s Prime Day Kindle deals to drop to around $49.99 / £39.99. If you pay, you get a basic Kindle model with ads and 8GB of storage. If we look a little further into the market, we expect the Kindle Paperwhite to cost between $89.99 and $100 in the US and between £79.99 and £100 in the UK.

Best Prime Day Kindle Deals of the Year

While we were looking at slightly older models, last year’s Prime Day Kindle deals still offered great discounts across the range. It was a record low price at the time, but the best news is that some of these price drops have already been seen in 2022.

painting

Amazon Kindle | $89.99 $54.99 on Amazon
Save $35 – The Standard Edition Kindle sold for $54.99 on a Prime Day Kindle deal last year. But considering that we’ve seen a record price of $49.99 that has beaten its sales since then, a bigger discount is expected in 2022.

painting

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite | $129.99 $79.99 on Amazon
Save $50 – There’s been a new Paperwhite since last year’s Prime Day Kindle deal, but the $50 discount on the previous generation definitely shows promise. This was a record low price at the time and gave me a free Kindle Unlimited for 3 months.

When will Amazon Prime Day Kindle deals start?
Amazon keeps the dates of its annual sale close to its chest. That means we don’t know when official Prime Day Kindle deals will kick off just yet. It’s worth noting, however, that before the last two years threw schedules out of whack, Amazon had a fairly strict timeline. We traditionally see Prime Day taking place during a middle week of July, though last year things were brought forward slightly to June. In 2022, we’re expecting to see Prime Day Kindle deals falling back into step, kicking off around Monday July 11 or 18.

Not only that, but they regularly price match Amazon’s own offers, and sometimes even throw in additional gift cards or other value-busting items for free as well.

Whereas we only dropped down to $54.99 / £49.99 last summer, we’ve already spotted a $49.99 sales price on the base model in the US (back in January) and a £39.99 record low in the UK (in April). Even during less impressive sales, however, this device is still hitting $59.99 / £49.99 regularly – just $5 more than last year’s Prime Day Kindle deals.
We would expect the standard edition Kindle to return to those record low prices in the summer, available for $49.99 / £39.99.
Kindle Paperwhite

The Kindle Paperwhite is a slightly different story. With a new model on the shelves (boasting a larger screen, smaller bezels, warm screen tone, and USB-C charging), we’re treading water before the real discounts hit the shelves. However, we do expect some price cuts to hit the 2021 model during this year’s Prime Day Kindle deals. After all, we’ve already seen that $139.99 / £129.99 MSRP hitting record lows of $104.99 in March, a price only previously spotted over Black Friday. Plus, the latest release has regularly dropped below £100 in the UK, available for £99.99 during sales in February, March, and April.
Those prices may well give way to some larger discounts in official Prime Day Kindle deals this year. The new release will be coming up to its first birthday this summer, a solid position for some heavier savings. We’re predicting a price range of between $89.99 and $104.99 in the US and £79.99 – £99.99 in the UK, inline with previous years’ offers.
If, however, you’re on the hunt for the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (for the increased storage space, automatic light adjustment, and Qi charging), we’d recommend keeping an eye out for prices of around $145 / £149.99, the lowest prices we’ve spotted so far. We’ve only seen the $189.99 / £179.99 MSRP of this boosted model drop a handful of times since its September release, so we’re holding out for official Prime Day Kindle deals for more inspiration here.

The Kindle Oasis is Amazon’s answer to ereader luxury. With a starting price of $269.99 / £229.99, however, it comes in more expensive than some full tablets. Things are a little more optimistic in the UK – we spotted a record low £169.99 price during the November sales that actually returned to the shelves as recently as April. Even outside of those discounts, though, we’ve been seeing the Kindle Oasis available for around £179.99 over the course of the year so far.
How much will a Kindle be on Prime Day?
We’re expecting the cheapest of this year’s Prime Day Kindle deals to fall around $49.99 / £39.99. For your cash, you’ll get the base Kindle model, with ads, and 8GB of storage space. If you’re looking for something a little further up the market, we’re predicting Kindle Paperwhite prices to hit between $89.99 and $100 in the US, and £79.99 and £100 in the UK.
Last year’s best Prime Day Kindle deals
While we were dealing with some slightly older models, last year’s Prime Day Kindle deals still offered up some excellent discounts across the range. These were some record low prices back then but the best news is we’ve already seen some of those price cuts beaten in 2022.

Amazon Kindle | $89.99 $54.99 at AmazonSave $35 – The standard edition Kindle was available for $54.99 during last year’s Prime Day Kindle deals. Considering we’ve since seen a record low $49.99 price surpassing that sale, though, we expect even bigger discounts in 2022.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite | $129.99 $79.99 at AmazonSave $50 – There’s a new Paperwhite on the block since last year’s Prime Day Kindle deals, but this $50 discount on the previous generation is certainly promising.
