Batman & Superman’s New Combined Form Hints at Extra Powers

Warning: contains a preview of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #4!

DC Comics has revealed a new character who is a combination of Batman and Superman, but his costume and accessories hide a Justice League-sized secret in plain sight. In new art for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #4 by artist Dan Mora, the new Batman/Superman combination character takes the spotlight. However, upon a closer look, it seems the new creation is more than just a Man of Steel/Dark Knight combo, and may even be a one-man Justice League.

In Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, the duo have been going up against Devil Nezha, a demonic villain capable of possessing magic-users. With a major mystical threat testing Batman and Superman, it makes sense to expect the unexpected, but recently publicized cover art suggests that Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent may soon take on a merged form, with aspects of this new character’s costume design hinting it will be something even greater than a genius Kryptonian.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Artist Dan Mora recently shared art for the upcoming Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #4 by Mark Waid, Mora, Tamra Bonvillain, and Aditya Bidikar, revealing the new combination character. Devil Nezha has magical abilities and has teamed up with the likes of Doctor Alchemy and Mirror Master to turn Wonder Woman into clay and corrupt Green Lantern. In the new art from Mora, the combination Batman/Superman character is revealed, and it’s possible Devil Nezha will create the combo form by stealing weapons and costume elements from DC’s greatest heroes, facing Batman and Superman with a merged villain based on their crime-fighting personas. Or, the new character could be a last-ditch effort from the heroes to stop the villain by somehow combining their physical forms. Whatever the truth, the character’s costume features some elements which seem to suggest the influence of heroes other than Batman and Superman.

It seems the new combination character is much more than just a Batman/Superman merger, as he seemingly possesses the abilities and costume details of some of the Justice League’s greatest heroes. The character appears to be wearing Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth and wielding energy similar to Green Lantern, with a helm resembling that of Batman’s protege Red Hood. Accordingly, fans are speculating that this new character could take up the Justice League’s weapons and powers. This would make sense, since in lacking powers, Batman isn’t actually bringing a huge amount to this amalgam in physical terms. With some major heroes already downed, it’s possible Batman and Superman will gather up their gadgets to stand a chance, or that Devil Nezha will collect them to create a high-powered minion.

Another big question mark hanging over the character is what their name will be. The DC Universe actually already has a ‘Most Excellent Superbat’ in Heino Okata, so it’s possible this obvious combo name won’t be available for the merged form, despite what its epic logo suggests. Likewise, DC’s ongoing series Dark Knights of Steel means a nickname merger probably also won’t be used. Considering the new character seems to be using a few Justice League-adjacent heroes’ costumes and powers merged together, a name like “Justice” or “Super Justice” might fit the bill. Fans will learn all this and more when the combination Batman/Superman character actually arrives in comic stores.
