BOTW Player Reveals Heavy Weapon Hack To Beat Shrines

A clever Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player can use a heavy weapon and the Magnesis ability to easily complete Shrines. Nintendo’s open-world fantasy epic gives players the tools and resources to complete puzzles and defeat enemies in countless different ways. While fans were disappointed when Zelda: BOTW 2 was delayed to spring 2023, gamers are still finding creative new solutions to the first game’s puzzles.

While the Legend of Zelda franchise is known for its puzzles, Breath of the Wild gives players multiple ways to overcome each of the game’s challenges. The land of Hyrule is totally free to explore, letting players find and complete the four Divine Beast dungeons in any order they choose. Alongside these massive mechanical creatures, Breath of the Wild also includes many smaller optional dungeons called Shrines. These underground areas test each player’s skill and creativity, with the game always accepting unorthodox puzzle solutions. Even five years after launch players continue to discover Zelda: Breath of the Wild secrets, proving the Nintendo title’s mastery of the open-world formula.

Reddit user Pixeddit recently revealed that many Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be beaten using heavy weapons. Hammers and axes are valuable tools in combat, but using the Magnesis ability to manipulate these colossal objects can make them handy for solving puzzles too. For example, Pixeddit’s video shows off the Jee Now Shrine puzzle that tasks players with shooting enemies off a conveyor belt. While the task typically challenges a player’s speed and aim with a bow, lifting a heavy weapon with Magnesis lets the player simply push enemies off the belt. The creative and clever video can be seen below:

Like Pixeddit’s heavy weapon Magnesis trick, the Zelda: BOTW wind bomb trick is an unintended but viable way for players to enhance Link’s aerial movement. The fantasy epic famously includes a paraglider, which lets the player descend from dangerous heights or achieve horizontal movement through the air. However, the infamous wind bomb trick sees players explosively propel themselves great distances by dropping spherical and cubic bombs while paragliding. Remotely detonating the spherical bomb will send the cubic bomb flying towards Link, which will hit the green-wearing warrior and send him flying across Hyrule.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild prides itself on giving gamers the freedom to complete challenges in any way they desire. Heavy weapons are typically a tool of war, but combined with Magnesis the massive armaments can activate switches and push enemies to easily complete puzzles. This Zelda: BOTW trick may be a perfect solution for gamers struggling with completing certain Shrine puzzles using the intended solution.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Nintendo Switch.
