These paper butterflies are really easy to make and perfect whenever you have a DIY template. Suitable for both kids and adults, they make great paper decorations. You can even make it mobile.
It’s a good idea to take as many different colored scrapbook paper or assorted colored card stock as possible to create a butterfly kaleidoscope.
How to make colorful paper butterflies
what do you need
- Cardboard or scrapbook paper in various colors and patterns
- black cardboard
- scissors
- Craft Stick (Mini)
- glue
- brush
- black marker
- Hot glue or glue dots (depending on the age and skill of the lover)
Crafting Instructions
Start drawing craft sticks. Glossy colors work best, but you can actually paint any color. Let the paint dry completely.
I made the antenna a little more detailed, depending on the age of the child, it can be made simply.
For adorable antennae like ours, cut a thin strip of black cardstock and punch a hole in a small circle.
Glue the strips to the back of the craft stick, then glue the punched circles to each paper strip.
Print an eye template (or use a googly eye or googly eye sticker) and stick it on a craft stick.
Draw a cute smile with a black marker. Set your chopsticks aside.
Print and cut out circle and rectangle templates. Place it on top of colored paper and trace around the template.
Cut out colored circles and rectangles.
Start origami – start on one side and fold (accordion fold – replace valley fold and mountain fold). You will need both molds to make a paper butterfly.
Glue the top and bottom together. Hold it in place to allow the glue to set (I like to use clothespins to hold things in place).
When the glue dries, spread the wings.
Glue a craft stick (using a glue gun or glue dot) to the center of the wing.
