Steamforged Games corrects and republishes the following documentation. Dark Souls: Role Playing GameThe rulebook has been out for a month and is known to be full of bugs.
“[T]”The best course of action is to order reprints of the book,” Steamforged said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon. We sincerely apologize.” We apologize for the bug and thank the players for reporting the problem.
It started last week when buyers of Collector’s Edition in Europe and the US received pre-release copies and found errors ranging from spelling errors to inconsistencies in game-changing rules. The full US release of the book is May 16th.
Dark Souls: Role Playing Gameis a tabletop role-playing game adapted from FromSoftware’s A-List video game franchise and an open source version of the rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Steamforged announced pre-orders for the game back in January, based on the commercially successful but critically mediocre tabletop game released on Kickstarter in 2016.
Last week, early buy-ins reported serious discrepancies in what they read in the rulebook. In some cases, knights will not have enough strength to wear their starting tier armor. In another case, the caster was unable to use the recommended weapon. Steamforged said in a statement to Polygon that it took the complaint “seriously” but did not consider it a groundbreaking bug at the time.
Steamforged said last week, “While these concerns shouldn’t affect the playability of the game, we’re always working to strengthen the process so that our loyal fans can continue to enjoy the games we publish.”
Tuesday’s statement doesn’t just apply to paper copies. Dark Souls: Role Playing Gameof the Standard and Collector’s Editions, which also means the PDF will be rewritten and reissued for the game. Steamforged said information on the release date and how to get an updated copy will be “coming soon”.
Steamforged said, “We ask for some patience while we gather more information about this reprint, the associated timeline, and the best resolution for each customer affected.”
