David Lynch says he doesn’t have a new movie premiering at Cannes

David Lynch has denied rumors of a secret film premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

“I don’t have a movie in Cannes,” Lynch said. AV Club. “Actually, no one ever asked me that. You’re actually the first person to ask me, ‘David, is there a movie in Cannes?’ No, there are no movies in Cannes.”

Lynch has not released a feature film since 2006’s Inland Empire starring Laura Dern, Justin Theroux and Harry Dean Stanton. Season 3 of Twin Peaks on the small screen premiered on Showtime in 2017, and the director has also directed various shorts over the past few years, including What Jack Did in 2017, which was also released on Netflix.

Lynch is also working on a new series for a streamer named Wisteria, and reports suggest he could premiere this episode in Cannes. Dern and Mulholland Drive star Naomi Watts are said to have joined the show.

“I’m not trying to deceive you. I don’t have anything in the cell.” The director went on to ask if he could do a TV pilot or other project at a film festival instead of a film. But he said at the end, “But there will be something new from someone else. I didn’t. I am not.”
