Dead by Daylight Announces First LGBTQ+ Character

The upcoming Tome 11: Devotion content for Dead by Daylight will shed more light on the popular multiplayer game’s first LGBTQ+ character, Survivor David King. A fan-favorite Dead by Daylight Survivor, David King joined the roster in 2017 during Chapter V: Lullaby for the Dark. The backstory developer Behaviour Interactive has built for David, thus far, casts the character as a spoiled rich kid whose promising career in rugby ended due to his assault of a referee.
Behaviour Interactive released Dead by Daylight on PC in 2016, then ported the asymmetrical multiplayer experience to PS4 and Xbox One the following year. As the horror title continued to grow in popularity, even more platforms were brought into the mix. Now even Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS users can assume the role of Killer or Survivor in Dead by Daylight. But for all of its inventive content releases and crossover chapters, many DBD players felt as though something had long been missing from the game’s otherwise robust offerings.
Tome 11: Devotion will go live for Dead by Daylight on Thursday, April 28, Behaviour Interactive has announced in a press release. This new Archives-based content promises to offer more insight about conjoined serial killers The Twins and David King’s struggles with his homosexuality. As the game’s first LGBTQ+ character, David’s turn in Devotion will allow players to explore memories in a pub where a discussion about romance leads to the revelation that he once had a boyfriend. Creative Director Dave Richard said the following about the forthcoming reveal, “Representation of diversity in entertainment matters, so it was important for us to take time and to surround ourselves with experts in order to do things properly.” Check out the reveal trailer for Tome 11: Devotion in the following video:

This new Tome comes just a few months after Dead by Daylight Tome 10 reintroduced players to The Pig/Amanda Young from the Saw film franchise. Tome 11 seems as though it could prove even more transformative, however, opening the door to LGBTQ+ representation not yet seen in the popular horror game. Hopefully, Behaviour Interactive handled David King’s coming out story with the utmost care.
Dead by Daylight has enjoyed a couple of other noteworthy content releases since Tome 10: Saw went live in January. For instance, the Sadako Rising chapter, inspired by The Ring, launched in March with a new Killer and Survivor in tow. Not too long thereafter, the development team unleashed DBD’s new Rockabilly Cosmetic Collection for Survivors Jane Romero and Yui Kimura and Killer Rin Yamaoka.
