Dead Space Remake’s Release Date Officially Revealed

Publisher Electronic Arts has finally set a due date for the Dead Space remake; the sci-fi horror experience returns to PC and consoles in January 2023. Motive Studio shared the news during its latest developer livestream, which revolved around the game’s incredible in-game atmosphere. The development team has hosted a few of these broadcasts, thus far, one of which recently outlined what players could expect from Dead Space’s ALIVE audio system.

Dead Space’s return has been a long time coming for both the series and the survival horror genre it helped reinvigorate in 2008. The first title seemingly came out of nowhere, surprising critics and players alike with its stunning world, excellent gameplay design, and fresh approach to sci-fi horror. Visceral Games’ sequel elevated the experience further still, but EA’s attempt to capitalize on monetary-based game trends at the time ruined all of the momentum upon Dead Space 3’s February 2013 release. Now, after years of waiting, a remake of the original is finally in the works.

Today, May 12, Electronic Arts and developer Motive Studio confirmed the Dead Space remake will come to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms on January 23, 2023. Details concerning pre-orders, potential special editions, and the like presently remain unknown to the public. But at least Dead Space faithful can mark their calendars. Isaac Clarke’s long-awaited return is less than half a year away. The announcement went live during the following Art Developer livestream hosted on the game’s official YouTube channel:

In the press release that accompanied the news, Electronic Arts and Motive Studio reiterated that DICE’s Frostbite engine powered the Dead Space remake, allowing developers to elevate yet remain true to the original game’s tension and thrills. Changes revolving around enhanced audio and sharper visuals should produce an even greater sense of tension to truly envelop players in the mystery of the USG Ishimura.

The Dead Space remake’s imminent release couldn’t come at a better time. Similar to film, horror has enjoyed nothing short of rude health in the last several years, thanks to reinvigorating experiences such as Amnesia, Outlast, and Resident Evil, the latter of which managed to get its groove back with the advent of 2017’s Resident Evil 7. (Interestingly enough, it, too, launched on January 23.) Before EA revealed the Dead Space re-release, rumors claimed the publisher had taken pointers from Resident Evil 2 Remake. Hopefully, the success of RE7 and RE: Village inspires the company to take a closer look at revisiting its space-faring horror series with a brand-new entry.
