Diablo 2 gets first major update in 11 years, fixes some 20-year-old bugs

Blizzard Entertainment has released a major new update. Diablo 2: Resurrection Thursday, a patch that brings a drastic balance change and fixes numerous bugs in the classic click-and-kill action RPG. 2.4 update Diablo 2: Resurrection It’s the game’s first major balance update in 11 years, and it fixes a few nasty bugs that players have been struggling with since the original game was released in 2000.
It’s worth noting that there are two old bugs. Diablo 2 It would have completely drained your character’s mana – effectively rendering some classes defenseless – or dealing too much damage – ie monsters enchanted with fire. According to Blizzard’s numerous patch notes:
- Fixed an issue that caused the Mana Drain Unique Monster Pack to consume significantly more mana than intended.
- Fixed an issue where Fire enchanted monsters were doing too much damage on Nightmare difficulty.
Diablo 2: Resurrection Developers said last year that they wanted to fix a bug like the one above, the unexpected result of a miscalculation in the game code that has been pissing players off for a long time. Andre Abrahamian, former game designer and head of design at Blizzard Entertainment, said: Diablo 2: ResurrectionOur team spoke in a Q&A video session. Diablo 2 Remaster wanted to “fix giving players misinformation”, but left a “singularity” that would either be helpful to players or be part of the game’s meta.
Elsewhere in the update, Blizzard made significant balance changes to all of them. Diablo 2: ResurrectionSeven lessons of. The team seems to have covered every aspect of the class, from attack animations to combat skills to class-specific tooltips. (Barbarian players will appreciate the modifications to this class’s Whirlwind skill.) These changes have been tested since January when Blizzard pushed patch 2.4 to the game’s public testing area.
Thursday’s update also includes a new Horadric Cube recipe, a new Ladder-exclusive runeword, and various quality of life updates. The latter includes a new “legacy” graphics emulation that offers a variety of classic display options. The following is documented in Blizzard’s patch notes:
- “GDI” emulates the original screening of legacy gaming software and applies no filtering.
- Glide emulates the hardware-accelerated backend of the original legacy game with bilinear filtering.
- Resurrection uses Glide Emulation with further modifications to fix artifacts that may have appeared with the original Glide renderer.
