Dragon Ball Super Hints Bardock’s Wish Actually Saved Vegeta, Too
It’s shown in the prequel bonus chapter known as Dragon Ball Minus, as well as the recent Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, that Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz were working together all the way back in their childhood days. The wish is clearly intended to offer an in-universe explanation for how, out of a dozen or so surviving Saiyans, two of them managed to be related while simultaneously being nowhere near each other. Bardock’s wish protected Raditz by getting him shipped off before Planet Vegeta was destroyed, but the circumstances of the situation meant that Raditz’ entire unit–including Vegeta and Nappa–were also sent to the same place, and incidentally survived as well.
Even though Dragon Ball Super‘s fans have a lot of familiarity with Bardock, this is still the first time that Goku and Vegeta learned about him (canonically). Bardock’s actions have clearly earned Vegeta’s respect, and while he may never know for sure, Vegeta may well have Bardock’s wish to thank for the life he now lives.
The latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super is now available to read for free through Viz Media’s Shonen Jump App.
