Knowing everything you need to do in the Elden Ring before NG+ or New Game Plus is a long checklist. The Elden Ring has everything you can find, and listing what to do before NG+ to maximize your experience and power can be a campaign in itself! With special gear, resources, gems, quests, and more, the Elden Ring goes far beyond the core storyline.

It’s worth remembering that Elden Ring New Game Plus is far more challenging than the original campaign, even if it’s not well-armed with the best items. To do so, and to find everything you normally miss in the first place, check out our guide below on what to do in the Elden Ring before NG+.

Everything you need to do in the Elden Ring before starting NG+

Before starting New Game Plus, the most important thing to do in the Elden Ring is to make sure you’ve found everything unique that you can’t get or farm indefinitely in one run. Otherwise, you will start a new game and miss your chance to get it fully until you come back to this point. With this in mind, there are a few important things to do before you rewind to when you were a humble person.

Unique items that must be acquired before starting Elden Ring NG+

Let’s start with a basic list of items. These can be found in every play, but you can’t farm indefinitely in the base game or New Game Plus, so make sure you have as many of these limited resources as possible.

Find all Elden Ring map fragments (eg carried over to NG+)
Find all Golden Elden Ring Seeds to maximize the use of your flask.
Find all 12 Sacred Tears to increase the potency of the flask.
Find as many caterpillar tears as possible. This is used to respec characters as detailed on the Elden Ring Respec and Larval Tears pages. We even explained where to find them!
Find as many Elden Ring Stonesword Keys as possible.
Find all the Crystal Tear to make sure the Flask of Amazing Physics is as versatile as possible.
Find both unique Ancient Dragon Forgings (13 total) and Gloomy Ancient Dragon Forgings (8 total). These are non-cultivable, but transferable, so this is your best chance to maximize their numbers. Or use it on a weapon for a buff before sending. that works.
Find all Great Grave Gloveworts and Great Ghost Gloveworts for Spirit Summon upgrades.

All of these items are unique and cannot be farmed permanently, so you must obtain them now. You can get it back from NG+, but you’re still working with a limited pool, otherwise it’s not as efficient as possible. Getting it at the end of the campaign is much easier than saving it in another game.

Things to do before Elden Ring NG+

Below that, we provide some helpful guidelines for special experiences, locations, locations, and activities that are best done later in the campaign rather than trying to work again on the next one. We also have a link to a more detailed explanation of this below, so you can click on one of these ideas to see more information about what we mean and what we’re going to do.

Use all of the walking graves to duplicate as many memories as you can and send them along with the fingerprint reader Enia.
Find all the legendary spells, weapons, ashes and talismans when you want to use them or get your hands on the related achievements/trophies.
Complete all NPC quests and defeat all interested bosses.
Use the extensive resources and opportunities available to create the build that works best for your character.
Run your farm late in the game to earn lots of runes and maximize your wealth.
Exhaust this rune with purchases and levels.

Wandering graves and memories

The Walking Mausoleum is a gigantic four-legged block of land that crosses the Elden Ring, each with a stone structure on top. Even after use, this building can be used to duplicate the special memories you gained from killing the boss! This will allow you to get both special items and spells from each memory, but not unlimited.

Each mausoleum can only be used once and there is a limit after that. Some mausoleums have a creaking bell underneath, others do not. A person who cannot do this can only replicate certain memories and cannot replicate any of them.

There are a total of 7 walking mausoleums in the entire Elden Ring, two of which are bellless and unable to duplicate the memories of the demigod Fragment Bearer, so you won’t be able to win prizes for all of them. Still, it’s well worth it considering that you can top up your prize money a little more when you come back to NG+.

Legendary spells, weapons, ashes and amulets

Most players don’t need it. Everyone Legendary items aren’t compatible with the builds that many players are targeting, but it’s good to have nonetheless, and there are definitely some that could potentially be used. There are also achievements and trophies to collect all 4 types (one achievement for each category). Depending on your progress, you may have missed an opportunity to earn certain achievements.

Complete NPC quests and bosses

This is obvious, but before you say goodbye, make sure your transaction is fully executed! The quest line is some of the best parts of the game and there are plenty of fun optional bosses like Astel, Naturalborn of the Void or the legendary tough Malenia. The late game in the Elden Ring is when you have access to everything, and it would be foolish not to take advantage of it as much as possible. With access to all vendors, bosses, regions, and special items at this point, it’s the perfect time to experiment with your build and transform into something better to best prepare you for the more challenging NG+. Late-game realm farms for rich runes

Again, with access to everything, it’s now much easier to find a good farm and grind place to easily collect tens of thousands of runes in early NG+ games. We’ve actually put together a page about Elden Ring Rune farm locations with information on how players can get rich very quickly. Who could disagree?

Use this rune for levels, items, spells, and smishing stones.

Use that rune! Buy everything you couldn’t get in the early game with all the merchants currently available. You level up as you see fit, but you will also receive valuable items and spells obtained through prayer books and scrolls of spells.

You should also purchase as many Forge Stones as possible. If you’re working on finding all the Elden Ring Bell Bearing locations for Twin Husks in Roundtable Hold, we have bad news. You won’t remember what you found on NG+, so you’ll have to bring them all back. Until then, stock up on Forgestones (or you can find them on the Elden Ring Forgestones page) and whatever else you want in advance so they don’t run out until you get your bell bearings back.

Speaking of Bell Bearings, what applies to and doesn’t apply to New Game Plus may seem a bit arbitrary, but it’s worth knowing from experience so you can understand all the scope you can sustain. We’ve broken it down into two lists below so you know what you should use/spend before starting over.

The main thing to do in Elden Ring before starting New Game Plus is to make sure you’ve found everything that’s unique, that can’t be farmed or obtained infinitely in a single playthrough. Otherwise you miss the chance to get them altogether until starting the new game and getting back to this point. With that in mind, here’s some essential things to do before rewinding back to the time of being a lowly Tarnished.
Unique items to get before starting Elden Ring NG+

We’ll start with a basic list of items. These can be found in all playthroughs, but they can’t be farmed infinitely in the base game or New Game Plus, so make sure you get as many as possible of these finite resources.
Find all the Elden Ring map fragments (yes, these carry over into NG+)
Find all the Elden Ring Golden Seeds to max out your Flasks’ uses.
Find all 12 Sacred Tears to enhance your Flasks’ effectiveness.
Locate as many Larval Tears as possible. These are used to respec your character, as outlined in our Elden Ring respec and Larval Tears page. We’ve even outlined where to find them all!
Locate as many Elden Ring Stonesword Keys as possible.
Find all the Crystal Tears to ensure your Flask of Wondrous Physick has as much versatility as possible.
Find all the unique Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones (13 total) and Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones (8 total) – these can’t be farmed but will carry over, so this is your best chance to maximise how many you have. Or just spend them on your weapons to boost them before you transfer – what works, works.
Find all the Great Grave Glovewort and Great Ghost Glovewort for Spirit Summon upgrades.
All of these items are unique and can’t be farmed forever, so you need to make sure you obtain them now. You’ll be able to get them again in NG+, but you’re still working from a limited pool either way and aren’t being as efficient as possible if you don’t. Not to mention that it’s much easier to get them now, at the end of one campaign, than to replenish your stock going into another game.
Things to do before Elden Ring NG+

Beneath this we’ll lay out some helpful pointers on special experiences, locations, places and activities that are best done in the late-game of one campaign, rather than trying to work back up to it in the next one. Use all the Walking Mausoleums to duplicate as many Remembrances as you can and spend them with Finger Reader Enia.
Locate all the Legendary Spells, Weapons, Ashen Remains and Talismans if you want to use them, or if you’re attempting the related Achievements/Trophies.
Clear any NPC quests and kill any bosses you’re interested in doing.
Use the expansive resources and opportunities available to make the best possible build for your character.
Farm late-game areas to get lots of Runes and maximise your wealth.
Exhaust those Runes with purchases and levels.
Walking Mausoleums and Remembrances

Walking Mausoleums are the giant, four-legged landmasses that amble about Elden Ring, each one with a stone building resting on top. These buildings can be used to duplicate the special Remembrances you get from killing bosses, even after you’ve used them! This way you can get both special items or spells from each Remembrance – though not infinitely.
Each Mausoleum can only be used once, and even then there’s limitations – some Mausoleums have ringing bells beneath them, and some don’t. Those that don’t can only duplicate certain Remembrances, not any of them.
With only 7 Walking Mausoleums in total across Elden Ring, and two of which that’re bell-less and can’t duplicate the Demigod Shardbearer Remembrances, you won’t come away with every prize for every Remembrance. Still, it’s worth doing, especially considering you can fill out your prizes a little more when they come back in NG+.

Most players won’t need every legendary item, as many won’t be compatible with the build players are going for, but it’s nice to have them regardless, and they’ll definitely be some you might be able to use. Spend those Runes! With all the merchants available to you right now, make sure you buy anything you won’t be able to get in the early game. Level up if you think you’ll need it, but also get items that seem valuable, and spells obtained through Prayer Books and Sorcery Scrolls.
You should also buy as many Smithing Stones as possible – as in, dozens of them, if not hundreds. If you’ve worked on finding all the Elden Ring Bell Bearing locations for the Twin Husks in the Roundtable Hold, there’s bad news – they won’t remember you found those for them in NG+, and you’ll have to get them all over again. Until that happens, stock on Smithing Stones (or find them at our Elden Ring Smithing Stones page) and any other items you want well in advance, so you’re sure not to run out until you get those Bell Bearings back.
