Ewan McGregor open to another Obi-Wan Kenobi return: “I’d be totally up for that”

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor couldn’t even imagine returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi after filming the Star Wars prequels. Now, 20 years after appearing in The Phantom Menace, McGregor returns as Obi-Wan in a new series on Disney Plus. And although the show was thought to be limited to six episodes, McGregor’s experience was so positive that he could happily return as a Jedi Knight.

In a new issue of the magazine featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi on the cover, he told Total Film, “If given the chance to do it again, I will absolutely support it.” McGregor’s Star Wars comeback was first proposed in the mid-2010s, when the actor first publicly expressed interest in returning to the role.

“I’m here again.” he joked “It’s like knocking on Disney’s door again!”

Speaking of filming the new series, McGregor said, “It was great to come back to bridge the gap between me and Alec Guinness. I played him this time as much as the first three films put together. It’s about the writing, the people and the technology we’ve been on the show with, and how everything is. It has to do with whether it is different.

On the cover story of the new issue of Total Film magazine, McGregor, Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen, co-star Moses Ingram and director Deborah Chow give a lengthy talk about Obi-Wan and his new adventures.
