FIFA is dead, replaced by EA Sports FC
After months of rumors and speculation, EA has confirmed that it will remove the FIFA name from the series of football games and will become known as EA Sports FC from 2023.
“EA Sports FC will be a direct continuation of the FIFA franchise and will have the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes,” EVP and EA Sports GM Cam Weber said in a press release.
“Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football will all be there. Our unique licensed portfolio of over 19,000 players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums and 30+ leagues will continue to exist in a way that is unique to EA Sports FC through decades of continued investment. This includes exclusive partnerships with the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS and more.”
More information on EA Sports FC will be announced in the summer of 2023.
FIFA 23 is the last EA game of this name, slated for release in 2022. Weber said, “With more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions and players than any previous FIFA title, we’re dedicated to making FIFA the next best thing.”
The EA Sports FC name was discovered on a list of brands in October 2021, shortly after the company said it was “looking into the idea of renaming the EA Sports global soccer game.” Insiders reported that in March 2022, the brand would actually be the title of the game.
EA released the game under the FIFA name after FIFA International Soccer in 1993 on Mega Drive/Genesis. EA entered into a license agreement with FIFA in 2013, which expires on December 31, 2022.
