Fortnite First Person Camera Mode Teased By Leaker

A recent Fortnite leak suggests Epic Games is currently working on a full first-person camera mode, which is allegedly still early in development. The game already has an example of switching to a first-person perspective while aiming down sights, but it is exclusively available on just one weapon.

Fortnite’s pioneering first-person ADS mechanic was added at the end of 2021. Epic introduced a new weapon, the MK-Seven assault rifle, which was equipped with a red-dot holographic sight. While aiming down this attachment, the perspective switched to the first-person camera allowing for landing more precise shots with a clear vision of the enemy. This is the only instance of first-person in Fortnite currently, with the game having maintained its third-person perspective since launch.

HYPEX, one of the most respectable Fortnite leakers, has taken to Twitter to claim that Epic is working on a proper first-person mode. Unfortunately, the leaker did not elaborate on the matter further, claiming that there’s no additional information at the moment. The mode is probably still early in development, which means there’s no clues on when it might be added to the game. To accompany this promising Fortnite leak, HYPEX shared a screenshot of the mode in action, which is exactly what one would imagine the first-person perspective to be. The leaker suspects that switching to FPS mechanics would work especially well in Zero Build modes, in which building is forbidden by default.

Years ago back in 2018, Fortnite players already started imagining what a first-person perspective could have looked like in the game. Courtesy of the crafty YouTuber Max Box, the first-person mode was introduced to Fortnite via a specially designed mod. Since the mod was probably as simple as changing the camera position without even touching the rest of the in-game mechanics, the result was awfully glitchy. However, it did provide an early look at what Fortnite first-person mode could’ve been. Moreover, members of the Fortnite community were genuinely excited to see the FPS mechanics in action, craving an official solution from Epic.

Although Fortnite’s player count figures are reportedly remaining quite strong, the steadily growing popularity of Apex Legends along with the supposed premiere of Warzone 2 in 2023 might be accountable for Epic’s decision to add a first-person mode. On top of that, the feature is directly requested by Fortnite fans, and maintaining a healthy, satisfied community is yet another reason to look into introducing proper FPS mechanics. With Epic not yet commenting on the leak, fans will have to wait to find out more.

FIRST PERSON CAMERA IN FORTNITE 🔥
This update Epic began working on some stuff about first person camera mode but there’s no other info about it at the moment as it looks like it’s still in early development. Would work REALLY well for the Zero Build Modes 👀 pic.twitter.com/PIRRmdLyp0
