343 Industries fixed a fan-favorite bug. Halo Infinity, finally giving players the freedom to drive a giant pelican transport across the map. And the fans are outraged.

Shortly after its release, late last year, fans discovered that they had kidnapped a pelican, usually controlled by one of the main story NPCs, and made it available on their own devices. This bug didn’t require the mod and seemed like an abandoned feature that was accidentally left in the game.

When the player calls a vehicle from one of the game’s many forward bases and the pelican tries to drop it, the player can lift it onto the pelican’s roof and press and hold the vehicle button to get inside. If they immediately quit the game and start over, the pelicans will be empty and will sit at the base when they return. The pelican then behaves like a normal flying vehicle except for the turret and the player can drive it across the map.

but off halo infinityThe bug is gone with your latest update. And a Reddit post this week specifically requesting that this bug be fixed has over 10,000 likes and 700 comments at the time of this writing.

Reddit user u/Sim0x24 wrote, “I patched it.” “You can’t drive a Pelican in the campaign anymore… whatever the reason. Driving a vehicle like a Pelican or Phantom has been my childhood dream ever since. hello ceand exclude Reach And Halo 4, you don’t control it. 343, I’m not mad, I’m just…why?”

Netizens who were dissatisfied with the text repeated their opinions. There are several good reasons the 343 might have fixed this (perhaps it was a feature for a new content update, the bug was linked to a much more serious bug, or it could have been an accident), but seeing this is heartbreaking.

A lifelong Halo fan (including myself) had a strange obsession with pelicans early in the series. Personally, I remember looking through magazines back in the day. Halo 3Release in the hopes that the ability to manipulate will be mentioned in an interview. And Halo Infinityof the vast open world, a game where players who have been waiting for years can finally live the life of a true pelican pilot. But no more.

I hope the pelicans come back Halo Infinity‘s campaign will one day come with a working tower and the ability to acquire it without glitches. But today, fans are very sad that their beloved random toy has been taken away from them.

343 Industries has removed a fan favorite glitch in Halo Infinite, which finally let players freely drive the giant Pelican transports around the map. And fans are pissed.
Shortly after release, late last year, fans discovered that they could hijack the Pelican — normally driven by one of the main story NPCs — and use it for their own devices. This glitch required no mods, and seemed more like an abandoned feature accidentally left in the game.
When players call in a vehicle at one of the game’s many forward operating bases, and the Pelican comes to drop it off, players can hoist themselves onto the Pelican’s roof, and hold the vehicle button to get inside. If they immediately end their game and restart, the Pelican will be empty, sitting at their base, when they return. The Pelican will then function like any normal flying vehicle — aside from the turret — and players can drive it all over the map.

But as of Halo Infinite’s most recent update, the glitch is gone. And a Reddit post this week that specifically calls out the removal of this glitch has over 10,000 upvotes and 700 comments at the time of this writing.
“They patched it,” wrote Reddit user u/Sim0x24. “You can no longer drive the Pelican in the campaign for … whatever reason. Driving vehicles like the Pelican or the Phantom was my childhood dream since Halo CE, and except Reach and Halo 4, you’ll never pilot it. 343, I’m not even mad, just … why?”
Frustrated commenters in the body of the post echoed their sentiment. And while there are some legitimate reasons 343 may have solved this issue — perhaps it’s an intended feature for a new content update, the glitch is tied to a far more serious bug, or it was an accident — it does hurt to see this go.
Lifelong Halo fans (myself included) have had a weird obsession with the Pelican since early on in the series. I personally remember scouring magazines ahead of Halo 3’s release, hoping an interview would mention the ability to pilot one. And with Halo Infinite’s massive open world, this was the game where players who’ve waited years could finally live their true Pelican pilot life. But not anymore.
Hopefully the Pelican will return to Halo Infinite’s campaign someday, maybe with a functional turret and the ability to acquire it without glitching. But today, fans are pretty sad that their beloved, accidental toy just got taken away from them.
