How to Blur Backgrounds in MS Teams

Make your video calls look professional with this handy feature.

Whether you’re working from home or in the office, it’s important to keep your background clean and tidy for video conferencing. This is especially important when interviewing or onboarding new customers. However, it is not always possible to keep a clean background.

Microsoft Teams can blur what’s behind you so you don’t have to worry about what your colleagues, customers, or potential employers are seeing. Even better, you can blur the background before someone on camera sees you. Alternatively, you can use one of the other Microsoft Teams effects to mask the background. You can also preview these options.

These instructions apply to the desktop Teams app. Mac or Windows computer.

How to Blur the Background in Teams (Free)

Get free access to Microsoft Teams. All you need is a Microsoft account. If you use Teams at work or school, you get access to a premium version with additional features. In either case, you can blur the background before joining or during a video chat.

Adding a background without a green screen results in a mixed result. You can see strange things like your face or hair disappear into the background.

Open the Teams app.

Start a new chat or join an existing chat.

press video To start a call, click the icon in the upper right corner. For incoming calls video Incoming call notification icon. (press Hand phone icon if you only want to use audio until the background is set.)

Hide or click on webcam video Icon to turn off the camera if you don’t want others to see you before changing the background.

Once others have joined, click on the three-dot menu.

Choose Show background effect.

Click the Blur Background option. Scroll down and click Apply and activate video.

Alternatively, you can change the background by selecting one of the displayed backgrounds. This will hide the surroundings and replace it with a virtual image. As with blurred backgrounds, if you don’t use a green screen, the generated virtual background can sometimes show or hide unwanted elements.

How to blur the background in Teams (Business)

The way we blur the background is slightly different in the business and enterprise versions of Microsoft Teams. This version of Teams requires a Microsoft 365 business or enterprise subscription. If you followed the instructions below but not blur my background If you select an option, the device is not supported. According to Microsoft, this effect requires hardware with an Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) processor.

Open the Teams app.

Select a scheduled meeting join.

Below the video you will see 3 sliders.

Turn on Center to enable background blur.

click Sign up now You can share videos.

After the meeting starts, you can blur the background by clicking on the three-dot menu and selecting Next. blur my background.
