This article explains how to delete pages from PDF documents using Preview on Mac, Google Chrome and Smallpdf. Instructions in Microsoft Word are similar to those in Google Chrome.

How to delete PDF pages in Chrome

There are several ways to remove pages from a PDF file, but regardless of the device you use, we will focus on the most common options with minimal effort.

You will need a PDF editing program to use this method. If you’re on a Mac, it’s already built in in preview format. Microsoft Word works as well and Google Chrome works as well. Alternatively, you can use a free PDF editor.

Open the PDF file in a PDF editor.

In the screenshot, I am deleting a page from a PDF file using Google Chrome, but the steps are similar for other apps.

click File > Print.

click target and choose Save as PDF.

Enter the pages you want to keep in the PDF document.

click save to computer.

Choose a location to save the file, then save to computer yet again.

The file is now saved with no pages you want to delete.

How to Remove Single or Multiple Pages Using Preview on macOS

If you use macOS regularly, you already have a PDF editor integrated via Preview. How to remove or delete pages in a PDF document using Preview.

Open the PDF file in preview.

Click the preview of the page you want to delete.

If the thumbnail does not appear View > Thumbnails Allow.

Press the Delete key on your keyboard. Do this for each page you want to delete.

click File > Save Save the file with the removed pages.

More options to remove PDF pages

Don’t want to install new software to remove pages from PDF? Fortunately, you can easily delete a single page (or multiple pages) from a PDF through an online app like Smallpdf.

This method only removes pages from two PDFs per day for free, but it’s a good short term solution.

Go to https://smallpdf.com/delete-pages-from-pdf

click Choose a file.

Restrictions on deleting pages from PDF.

Deleting pages from a PDF document is usually quite easy, but with some limitations.

  • These methods do not work for read-only PDFs.. If the PDF is read-only, it cannot be edited. This means that individual pages cannot be deleted either. You will need to change the read-only setting yourself or ask the author of the file to change it.
  • You still need your password. Are you trying to delete pages from a password protected PDF? You must know the password to open the file and delete the page.
  • Get permission from the PDF file owner. PDFs tend to be important documents, so it’s a good idea to get permission from the PDF file’s creator before deleting anything important. It’s not absolutely necessary in all cases, but it’s simply in good shape.
