Getting a house has always been a terrible experience in FFXIV, although with the addition of the new Empyreum housing area in Ishgard, the developers have made some changes to the housing system. Our FF14 The housing guide explains how to apply for housing lotteries and hopefully get a house in the new area.
What’s Different With FFXIV Housing?
Prior to patch 6.1, all new housing areas were first come, first served. All housing plots that were previously occupied required new buyers to sit and wait for an invisible timer to expire before they could purchase the plot. This means you’ll have to sit on a lot for a random amount of time (which could take upwards of 20 hours, if you’re unlucky) clicking on a sign to try and buy the house.
According to Square Enix, “When patch 6.1 is released, all land available for purchase will be subject to the lottery system.” In the future, some neighborhoods may still use the first-come, first-served (old) system, but for now, everything will use a lottery.
How does the lottery system work?
Each character can select a house to participate in the lottery. Houses will accept lottery entries for five days. After that, a winner will be chosen and the winner will have four days to claim the plot. If it is unclaimed, a new lottery will start for that plot.
To participate in the lottery, click on the sign in front of the empty plot to which you wish to register. You must pay the full price of the land upfront, but it will be returned to you if you do not get the land. You will need to see the same package again to get your refund.
If you win the lottery but do not claim the prize after winning, you will lose 50% of the gil deposited.
How can I get a house for myself?
Head to the Empyreum housing district in Ishgard with the amount of gil your desired house size costs. (Small ones cost 3-4 million gil, medium cost 16-20 million, and large cost 40-50 million.) Click on the sign of the bundle you want, drop the gil, and pray for the best.
To qualify for a home, you need the following:
At least one class must be level 50 or higher
Sub-lieutenant of major company rank or above
How can I get a house for my Free Company?
Getting a house for a Free Company is pretty much the same thing. Click on the sign on the desired lot to register for the lottery, although you can only participate in one housing lottery at a time, so if you are registered for a personal house, you cannot register for new for a Free Company house .
Every member of a free enterprise can enter the lottery as long as they meet the requirements. This means that your FC can have multiple entries on a lot if your FC teammates are all applying for the same lot.
To qualify for the Free Company Housing Lottery, you need the following:
Your free company must be at least rank 6.
Your FC must have at least 4 members.
You need permission within your FC to buy land.
You must be in the FC for at least 30 days.
What about accommodation outside of Ishgard?
Many players who have houses in other zones will likely enter the Empyrium housing lotteries for better locations or bigger houses, which means that many housing lots in other zones are getting smaller. will open after the end of the first lottery period.
Square Enix confirmed to us via email that everything plots will use the lottery system in patch 6.1 until further notice, even if they open via relocation.
That being said, after the end of the first nine-day lottery period, a new one will begin. From around April 21 (and nine days after), you should be able to apply for housing lotteries in other areas with newly opened plots.
