You do not need to activate this feature to use it. It’s built into the Mail app and can be used in two ways. Use the first method in your inbox.

How to mute an email thread in an open email message
If you already have an email open and you don’t want to be notified of future messages in that thread, you can also mute a thread within an open email. To do this, follow these steps.
Open the message in the thread you want to mute.

You can unmute a thread from the same menu.
You only need to mute the threads on one device. Settings are propagated to other devices using your Apple ID.
Decisions on handling of muted emails
In iOS 13, you can not only mute email threads, but you can also decide what to do with new messages received in muted conversations. To set this preference, follow these steps:

Choose the option you want.
- mark as read Keeps new emails in your inbox, but doesn’t mark them as new. Use this option if you want to read your messages later, but don’t need a notification every time you receive a new message.
- Archive or Delete It’s for messages you don’t want to read. When a new message arrives on a thread you’ve muted, this option moves it directly to the Archive or Trash folder, depending on how you set up your inbox.
Why You Should Mute Email Threads
Having an overly active conversation can be boring when you’re notified of every message that arrives in your inbox. You can turn off notifications for annoying threads without missing notifications about other emails you receive.
Prior to this feature, you only had the option to handle all notifications or turn them off entirely. Muting individual threads gives you more control over which notifications appear on the lock screen.
