How to play Elden Ring multiplayer coop with friends

Elden Ring co-op and multiplayer are very fun parts of the Elden Ring experience, but unlike the NPC Elden Ring Summons and Ash Spirits available, they are not the easiest to set up. Instead, we’ll cover methods. You can do it here. Play with real people, friends and strangers in Elden Ring.

The key here is that Elden Ring’s co-op multiplayer is fairly limited and is well suited for guiding players towards specific goals where two people work together. For this reason, it’s best to seek help from the bosses and realms you’re challenging when helping a friend or two complete the worst challenges the game has to offer. With that in mind, here’s how to play Elden Ring co-op and multiplayer with your friends, all their features, plus penalties and benefits.

In order to play Elden Ring multiplayer with a friend, the player must first cross several goalposts. Because coop has its own limits. In Elden Ring online multiplayer, one player takes on the role of the “host of fingers” while all other players join their world as phantom players, effectively helping the host no matter what.

  1. Internet connection on console/computer required to play with friends (including all subscription services required to play online).
  2. Once done, you need to open the game menu and scroll down to “Multiplayer”.
  3. From there, select “Settings” and enter your multiplayer password. It can be anything, but that’s important as long as you and your friends type and match them correctly. This password effectively ensures that only each other can see, not millions of other players.
  4. Once this is done, each non-host must use a special item marked Little Golden Efigy in the multiplayer menu. Everyone should do it except those who need help in aka boss fights or difficult areas. This will display the message “Sending Co-op sign to Summoning Pool”.
  5. If you don’t have the little golden statue, head back to the very first area just outside the Stranded Cemetery and look down at the Tree Keepers. It will depend on the image of the local martyr. Speaking of…
  6. The person who is the host must then find a small statue called the image of a martyr in an area that is particularly in need. This is a small, generic statuary with outstretched arms, typically found outside dungeon entrances or boss arenas.
  7. Interact with it to open the summon pool and display an icon that can be used to summon a friend who has used a little golden doll with a matching password. You should be able to get them now!

Players who enter the Elden Ring as a golden co-op phantom are not as powerful as they are in their own world. They only have half the flask than usual and their stats are usually nerfed to prevent two high-ranking players from trampling on the boss in favor of a low-ranking friend.

Coop is also run with a specific objective in mind: the boss of the area. Wherever the host triggers the Martyr Statue, it effectively does its job. For example, if the host brings the player to Stormveil Castle, the goal is to defeat the castle’s boss, Godrick the Gradrick. When completed, the mission is over and the Phantoms return to their game.

Elden Ring Coop supports up to 3 players at a time. A host of fingers and two golden phantoms to support them. It’s also not cross-platform, so players won’t be able to battle their friends on other consoles or computers.

How to unlock co-op multiplayer

When will co-op multiplayer unlock in the Elden Ring?

As far as we can tell, the Elden Ring Coop Multiplayer will unlock in the Elden Ring after completing the tutorial, leaving the Stranded Graveyard and entering the grass area between Limgrave and Lands. However, it is better not to start yet. Multiplayer co-op is goal-based, so you usually have to explore it for the first few hours. You can still keep an eye on Martyr Effigies and take notes so you know where to call your ally in a hurry.

Players who like being summoned by anyone can use a multiplayer menu item called Stained Curled Finger right next to the little golden doll. This simply places a golden symbol where the player is standing. This symbol appears in a random player’s game and can be triggered by the player.

However, these icons will not be visible until potential hosts use an item called Furlcalling Finger Remedy in this menu. It is invisible and unusable until you do so. So if you want to summon your allies, Remedy Furled Finger lets you see the icons left behind by those who used Tainted’s Furled Finger. The good thing is that these names are so simple.
