How to season a cast iron skillet and how often you should do it

How to season a cast iron skillet

1. Preheat the oven – First you need to preheat the oven to 350°F to prepare the marinated pan.

2. Add a little oil and rub to coat. Next, take the desired oil and pour a tablespoon or two into the pan. You only need to apply a thin layer of oil for seasoning, so be careful not to pour too much. Then, rub the oil with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to cover the entire pan. Once you’ve greased the inside, don’t forget to do the same for the outside and bottom of the pan.

3. Bake the pan in the oven. The key is to turn the pan on the middle shelf of the oven upside down to bake for 1 hour (eg 1 hour). 4. Let the pan cool before storing – After baking, let the pan cool completely before removing it from the oven.

You should see a smooth, shiny finish on the pan. This means you’re ready for your next cooking session! For added protection against rust, it is recommended to line the pan with a paper towel before storing it in the cupboard.
