How to take a picture during a FaceTime call

When you turn on FaceTime Live Photos, you can take a photo during a FaceTime call. However, there are a few caveats. The first is that other people you’re talking to on a FaceTime call may also need to enable FaceTime Live Photos on their device. A second limitation of FaceTime Live Photos is that you cannot (fortunately) use this feature without knowing that someone is taking a picture of you. The app notifies you when a photo is taken.

This feature is not available in all countries.

But with these two things, clicking the white shutter button during a FaceTime call makes it easy to take a picture.

When on a group call, you must first select the tile of the person you want to take a picture of, and then expand that picture to fill the entire screen. You can then tap the shutter button on the photo.

When you tap the shutter button, the camera captures a snippet of before and after photos for your video, just like Live Photos does when using the Camera app. Images are moved to your photo gallery, where you can view and edit them just like any other Live Photos.
