Kingdom Hearts Fan Designs Star Wars-Themed Keyblades for KH4

A Kingdom Hearts fan recently designed a few Star Wars-themed Keyblades, drawing inspiration from the recent tease of Kingdom Hearts 4 featuring Endor. Throughout Square Enix’s long-running Disney/Final Fantasy crossover JRPG series, Sora and his friends have traveled to various worlds modeled after classic Disney films in their ongoing battle against the forces of darkness. During these travels, Sora can unlock new forms for Kingdom Hearts‘ trusty Keyblade weapon, each one granting the young hero different effects and status boosts. In the case of 2019’s Kingdom Hearts III, these new Keyblades allow him to access alternate forms and special attacks to help him fend off the sinister Organization XIII and their Heartless forces.
The Kingdom Hearts series’ focus on swordplay, traveling to unique and at times exotic worlds, and recurring theme of light battling darkness have naturally drawn comparisons to Star Wars, but the two franchises have remained separate – even after Disney purchased the rights to the beloved space opera from George Lucas in 2012. Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura has cited licensing issues as the primary reason that Star Wars has yet to be featured in a Kingdom Hearts game as of this writing, though the recent trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 has suggested that this could be about to change. During last weekend’s appropriately cryptic Kingdom Hearts 4 teaser, fans could see a brief shot of a wooded area that looks suspiciously like the forest moon of Endor, leading many to believe that the upcoming sequel could see Sora and his friends pay a visit to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

This in turn has led Twitter user and Keyblade fan designer MasterLeytrx to wonder what new weapons Sora could gain from his hypothetical visit to the Star Wars universe in Kingdom Hearts 4 and post a few of their ideas for Sora’s new Keyblade on social media (via CBR). The first of these four Star Wars-themed Keyblade designs is the “Praetorian Protector,” a crimson sword that MasterLeytrx modeled after Supreme Leader Snoke’s Praetorian Guard from The Last Jedi. The second is “Rebel Scum,” patterned after Luke Skywalker’s classic X-Wing starfighter – down to the keychain of R2-D2 hanging from the handle. MasterLeytrx also created a black-and-orange variant referencing Resistance pilot Poe Dameron of the Sequel Trilogy, swapping out R2 with BB-8. Finally, MasterLeytrx designed a simple Lightsaber-style Keyblade with the classic glowing blue energy blade and silver handle, along with a keychain depicting the symbol of the old Jedi Order of the Prequel Trilogy.

This last Keyblade design isn’t the first time that fans have given Sora a lightsaber, as a recent Kingdom Hearts III mod swaps out the hero’s signature weapon with the miniature laser swords from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Meanwhile, the internet has been filled with speculation about the extent of Kingdom Heart 4‘s possible crossover with Star Wars, with fans spreading ideas as to which Star Wars characters and vehicles could appear alongside the brief tease of an Imperial AT-ST shown in the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer.
These fans will likely have to wait a while to confirm that Kingdom Hearts 4 will indeed feature Star Wars content, as Square Enix has noted that the game is still very much a work in progress at this time. Devoted Kingdom Hearts fans like MasterLeytrx are making that long wait a little easier by showing off their impressive ideas for new Keyblades that Sora could unlock during his time in the Star Wars galaxy – assuming that he is indeed going to be traveling there in the next Kingdom Hearts game.
