We love making crafts and fun activities for kids because leaves are one of nature’s most economical crafts. And oh so versatile!
This time, combine the leaves with another fun children’s craft accessory, a very economical paper plate, and create all kinds of silly hairstyles and faces. Origami activities for kids are the best!
There are no rules on how to make this, and no rules on which leaves to use. Choose as many different varieties as possible for your child or student (this is a good idea, in kindergarten or kindergarten). Open project as much as possible. You can even turn this into a “selfie” art activity!
Before you start making this craft, make sure the leaves are dry. Especially if you want to keep this craft project for display. This is because leaves that are not completely dried will wrinkle and curl over time, but dry leaves will retain their shape.
We lay them between newspapers, weigh them with a book and dry them. We also emphasize picking leaves after a few days of sunny days, not immediately after rain.

There really are no rules to how you can make this one and there certainly are no rules as to which leaves to use – pick as many different kinds as possible to give your kids or students (this one is great to do in preschool or kindergarten) as much of an open ended project as possible. You can even make this into an “self portrait” art activity!
Make sure the leaves are dried before you start making this craft, even more so if you want to keep this crafting project as a display – as leaves that are not yet fully dry will wrinkle and curl over time, whereas dry ones will keep their shape.
We dry ours by placing them between sheets of newspaper and weighting them down with books. We also make it a point to pick leaves after a few sunny days, never directly after a rainy one.
