Modder finds Elden Ring ‘dream collecting’ content cut from final release

Alone in a vast field, a wolf sleeps. He is definitely alive: his body rises and falls with each breath. But he doesn’t wake up when the sun approaches; normally a wolf like this would attack.
Modder Lance McDonald found this wolf and others, alongside a napping ground octopus – its tentacles crawling over themselves – in the Ring of Elden network test version from 2021. They were all removed from the live version of the game however. When McDonald started looking around he realized that it was cut content taken from Ring of Elden after the network test, it was all linked to a mechanic and a series of quests related to the “collection of dreams”.

In the original content, the player would be required to find the ingredients needed to collect dreams – from enemies like these sleeping wolves and the ground octopus. After collecting a dream mist and giving it to a monk, players will receive a “Dreambrew” consumable that will inspire others to reveal their secrets, McDonald said.
McDonald found that this mechanic was likely a way to encourage players to explore more, but also included a “sprawling” monk-centric storyline. But the true extent of dream collecting is still quite mysterious.
Ring of Elden has so many secrets, some of them hidden deep in the game’s code. McDonald’s is a YouTube creator known for this type of work, but others dig into the game the same way. But with a game this big, it will absolutely be some time before we find all of its secrets.
