Moon Knight episode 5 finally explains one of the show’s biggest mysteries
Moon Knight Episode 5 has finally answered one of the biggest questions on the Disney Plus Show. There are big spoilers. If you haven’t seen the latest episode, come back now!
From the start of the series, how Oscar Isaac’s Mark Spector developed his alternate character, Steven Grant, was a mystery. The duo appeared regularly throughout the show, but episode 4 was the first time both characters appeared on screen at the same time, and this continued through episode 5.
In the episode, Taweret tells both Marc and Steven that they must explore the past to safely pass through the Egyptian afterlife. Dark events of Mark’s childhood are revealed. We learned that he had a younger brother who drowned while exploring a cave together, and Mark’s mother blamed him for his accident.
In the disturbing flashback, we see Marc’s mother trying to access his bedroom. And Marc turns into his Steven persona, inspired by the Indiana Jones-esque adventure film in Episode 4. Marc then explains that Steven’s “point” is unaware of the abuse and that Steven was allowed to lead a “happy, simple and normal life.” But Stephen is upset that his life was a lie.
The episode ends with Steven trapped in an afterlife that has greatly upset the internet. So it remains to be seen whether he can escape from the final episode and help Mark stop Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow.
