Ms. Marvel’s Powers Are Not Exactly Comic-Accurate, Says Kevin Feige

In the original comic series, Ms. Marvel has Inhuman DNA that grants her special abilities following contact with the Terrigen Mist that enveloped New York City and the greater metropolitan area. Although Inhumans have been introduced into the MCU with a brief eight-episode show in 2017, the circumstances that would lead to Kamala acquiring her powers have yet to take place. As a result, the Ms. Marvel series would need a new reason behind the origins of her powers.

Recent promotional materials have suggested that Kamala obtains her powers through special bangles enhanced with cosmic energy, an heirloom that’s passed down through generations within her family. Although the hero’s origins may not be the same as in the comic books, the bangles may still be comic-inspired as they seem to be similar to Nega-Bands, golden Kree bracelets that granted powers to earlier version of Captain Marvel in the comics. Whether or not Kamala’s powers are exactly as portrayed in the comics, Feige promises that they remain true in-spirit to the character in the upcoming Ms. Marvel series.
