New Sennheiser wireless earbuds could blow away AirPods Pro on sound quality
Sennheiser has unveiled the long-awaited Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds, lowering the initial MSRP price to $249.95 (£219.99), lower than its predecessor.
We liked Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 2, which outperforms the AirPods Pro in terms of overall sound quality, and the next-gen model offers more of the same high-quality sound with improved noise-cancelling technology, while offering a close price-price rival to its predecessor.
The latest true wireless earbuds also introduce a graphite color option, complementing existing black-and-white options and giving potential buyers more options to match their personal style.
Internally, the Momentum True Wireless 3 uses the same 7mm true-response speaker drivers as its predecessor, but ANC performance has been improved with adaptive technology that automatically adjusts the rejection level based on the environment to better isolate it from ambient noise. There is also a better transparency mode, and three microphones per earbud are said to allow for better call quality.
The new Sound Personalization feature uses guided hearing tests to tailor the Momentum True Wireless 3’s sound to the wearer’s hearing.
The new Sound Personalization feature uses guided hearing tests to adapt the sound in the earbuds to the wearer’s hearing. The Smart Control app also provides a variety of presets and equalizer features that allow you to tailor the sound to your personal preferences. Codec support has also been improved and aptX Adaptive is now included. Essentially, it combines the sound quality of aptX HD with the low latency of aptX Low Latency to handle high-resolution streaming content as efficiently as possible.

Despite technical improvements elsewhere, battery life hasn’t improved, with up to 7 hours of playback without ANC and up to 28 hours with the charging case. At a pre-launch product briefing, Frank Foppe, product manager for Momentum True Wireless 3 at Sennheiser, noted that the battery life with ANC turned on is pretty decent at around 6.5 hours and around 27 hours respectively.
Sennheiser again doesn’t seem to have improved water resistance this time around, and the Momentum Wireless 3s has the same IPX4 rating as its predecessor, which is enough to handle sweat and light splashes.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless goes on sale May 10, but is available for pre-order now. We’ll be following the launch news soon with a full review to see how the Momentum True Wireless 3 compares to its older brother and how successfully it challenges its noise-cancelling earbuds competitors at this price point.

Despite tech improvements elsewhere, battery life hasn’t been bettered and remains at up to 7 hours for playback without ANC, and up to 28 hours playback with the charging case.
