Nintendo Switch just got this seriously useful feature — here’s how to use it

The latest Nintendo Switch software update has been released, bringing you a much-requested feature: Folders.

Almost five years later, the ability to sort Nintendo Switch game icons into folders on the console home screen has finally arrived. Nintendo refers to these folders as “groups,” and Switch players can create up to 100 groups with up to 200 games per group.

This UI has been very well received by Nintendo fans, but the Switch’s folder functionality has some disappointing limitations. Groups are only visible when in the All Software menu and cannot be placed on the home screen. However, groups are at least highly customizable, and within groups you can set names and rearrange the game order.

Updating to Nintendo Switch version 14.0.0 adds the ability to place software titles in folders. There are also minor improvements to the console’s Bluetooth capabilities. You can now adjust the volume via the switch or the volume control on the connected Bluetooth device itself (assuming you have one). We also increased the maximum volume of some bluetooth audio devices.

Folders are definitely the flagship product of this update, and if you’re not sure how to place software titles into groups, read below as we guide you through the process. First make sure your Nintendo Switch is updated to version 14.0.0, then follow the steps below to learn how to group your games.
