Obi-Wan Kenobi Gets Remade As Perfect Pixel Zelda Game

To celebrate the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, pixel artist Brandon James Greer creates Obi-Wan Kenobi in the style of classic Legend of Zelda games. Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Master of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, will be the title character starring in a miniseries on Disney+. The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place ten years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, with Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the prequel trilogy as Obi-Wan.
The list of video games set in the world of Star Wars spans nearly every major gaming console in existence, from the Atari 2600 to the Playstation 5. While several Star Wars games were done in pixel style, early Legend of Zelda games, namely A Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening, were created in a style that set itself apart from other pixel games. A Link to the Past in particular kept just the right amount of details while keeping the overall look simplistic, gave the characters memorable and easily recognizable silhouettes, and in general the game was very colorful and vibrant. It’s easy to see how many pixel artists, Brandon James Greer included, have continued to be inspired by it years later.
Just in time for May the 4th, Youtuber Brandon James Greer reimagines Obi-Wan Kenobi exploring Tatooine in a pixel style inspired by Legend of Zelda titles A Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening. In his video, Brandon walks the viewer step by step through his process of creating, coloring, and even animating Obi-Wan in an 8×8 pixel grid format. He then continues to construct a fully furnished recreation of Ben Kenobi’s house from A New Hope for the pixel Obi-Wan to wander around in. In the complete animation, Obi-Wan obtains “an elegant weapon”, aka his lightsaber, to brave outside his home and take on a womp rat and Tusken Raider.

Brandon created a flawless pixel recreation of Obi-Wan Kenobi, with instantly recognizable locations, props, and characters. His animation never lost the feel of Star Wars, even while combining it with the look of Legend of Zelda. As he explains his methods to the viewers, Brandon makes pixel art look easy with practiced efficiency. Seeing the step-by-step process of bringing Obi-Wan to life in adorable pixel form can only add to the excitement as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series nears.
At the time of writing, the debut of Obi-Wan Kenobi has not yet arrived, so fans can only guess at what sort of adventures the exiled Jedi Master will be having at this point. However, this little pixelated tidbit of Obi-Wan setting out on a noble quest, just like Link in Legend of Zelda, does spark the imagination on what the next chapter in the Jedi Master’s life will look like. The Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries is set to debut on May 27th and will have six episodes.
