Oculus Quest 3: News, Price, Release Date, Specs, and Rumors
Find meta quest 3 later in 2023
Despite rumors of a late 2023 release, we’ve already heard of a sequel to the Oculus Quest 2. Dubbed the Oculus/Meta Quest 3, this virtual reality headset will be able to use a new type of OLED and may come with a proprietary processor.
When will Oculus Quest 3 be released?
Meta hasn’t announced any news about this headset yet, but that doesn’t mean they can’t try it when it’s available for purchase.
The original Oculus Quest was released in May 2019 and the second version was released in Fall 2020. The Oculus Quest Pro will probably launch in April/May of this year. That means the rumored Quest 3 could follow in 2023.
Facebook/Meta Connect typically runs in September or October, so expect Connect 2023 to be an Oculus Quest 3 public event.
Oculus Quest 3 price rumors
The first Oculus Quest started at $399 for the 64GB version. For the 128GB Quest 2, the price has been reduced to $299.
If this trend continues, the price of the 2023 Quest headset will be much lower. Of course, this trend doesn’t last forever and there are only two versions based on it, so it’s a hope rather than a trend.
Ideally, you’d get a VR headset that’s a lot cheaper than it was in previous years, but it’s unclear what kind of hardware improvements and other changes this device will get. Without an official statement from Meta, price estimates are currently pure speculation.
Pre-order information
It’s still stellar when pre-orders start. When a link becomes available, I will provide it here.
Since Quest 2 was announced and pre-sale started almost a month ago, we could see the same schedule again this time around.

Features of Oculus Quest 3
Currently, it is difficult to know about the features of Metaquest 3, but Metaquest Pro, which is expected to be released first, seems to have some of the same features. It is currently unclear to what extent these two devices differ. Are they both headed for the metaverse, or is only one of them scheduled? You’ll find out more as we check out leaks and official news on Meta.
Here are the rumors about the Meta Quest Pro:
A few ideas we’ve seen are improved form factors that make the whole system easy/comfortable to use and how to successfully reduce motion sickness.

Oculus Quest 3 Specifications and Hardware
According to XR hardware analyst Brad Lynch, the headset will be the first to use uOLED (Ultra-OLED, an updated version of OLED). The lens should have a higher resolution than the Quest 2, which is 1832×1920/eye, and expect at least 120Hz as the refresh rate will definitely stay the same unless you increase the refresh rate.
This device also has a proprietary chipset. According to Lynch, this SoC will “focus on GPUs that are better tuned for VR loads.” FYI, Quest 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, and by the time Quest 3 comes out, v3 may be possible, but it looks like the Meta will switch to an internal processor.
Again, it’s early and a lot of rumors seem to confuse the Quest 3 with the Quest Pro, so clearing up the differences isn’t easy yet. Check back for updates as we continue to incorporate everything else we’ve learned about Quest 3.

Despite its rumored late-2023 release, we’ve already been hearing about the Oculus Quest 2 successor. Likely called Oculus/Meta Quest 3, this virtual reality headset might use a new kind of OLED and come with a proprietary processor.
When Will the Oculus Quest 3 Be Released?
Meta hasn’t actually come out with any news about this headset yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a stab at when it might be available for purchase.
The original Oculus Quest was released in May 2019, and the second iteration arrived in Fall 2020. The Oculus Quest Pro is expected next, likely around April/May of this year. This means the rumored Quest 3 might follow in 2023.
Facebook/Meta Connect usually runs during September or October, so we expect Connect 2023 to be the unveiling event for the Oculus Quest 3.
Oculus Quest 3 Price Rumors
The first Oculus Quest started at $399 for the 64 GB version. The price was reduced to $299 for the 128 GB Quest 2.
That trend, if it were to continue, suggests an even lower price for the 2023 Quest headset. Of course, a trend like this doesn’t continue indefinitely, and there are only two versions to base this on, so it’s not so much a trend as it is a hope we have.
Ideally, of course, we’d get a much cheaper VR headset than previous years, but we’re just not sure yet what sort of hardware improvements and other changes are going into this device. Without official statements from Meta, price estimates are complete guesses at the moment.
Pre-Order Information
When pre-orders will start is still up in the air. We’ll provide a link here when one becomes available.
The Quest 2 was announced, and pre-orders began, nearly a full month before it was available, so we could see the same timeline this time.

Oculus Quest 3 Specs and Hardware
According to XR hardware analyst Brad Lynch, this headset will be the first to use uOLED (ultra-OLED, an upgraded version of OLED). This device will also have a proprietary chipset. Lynch says this SoC will “focus on a GPU that is better designed for VR loads.” For reference, the Quest 2 includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor, and while v3 might be doable by the time the Quest 3 comes out, Meta is apparently going with an in-house processor.
Again, it’s still early, and lots of rumors seem to be conflating the Quest 3 and Quest Pro, so ironing out the differences isn’t easy just yet. Be sure to check back for updates as we continue to include everything else we learn about the Quest 3.
