Petition Against Kojima & Xbox Game Grows After Partnership Confirmed

News that Kojima Productions has partnered with Xbox for Hideo Kojima’s next game has caused backlash from fans, and an existing petition against an Xbox Kojima game has grown in traction. Kojima has often been associated with the PlayStation brand throughout his long and illustrious career, with his most notable projects like the Metal Gear Solid franchise and Death Stranding often being exclusive to Sony consoles, or at least starting there before branching out onto PC or other consoles. There was even a rumor that Kojima Productions would be bought by Sony, but Kojima has gone on the record stating that his company will remain independent.

This independence was recently reinforced by Hideo Kojima’s surprise appearance during the June 12 Xbox and Bethesda Showcase livestream, where the famed developer announced that he is partnering with Xbox to produce a brand-new game. This new project is still in the early stages of development and details are sparse, but Kojima has promised that it will utilize Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology to deliver a groundbreaking gameplay experience that the thought-provoking auteur has always wanted to create. Xbox Gaming CEO Phil Spencer also expressed excitement about Xbox’s new partnership with Kojima Productions, and reiterated that the legend of the gaming industry will bring fresh and revolutionary concepts as he often does.

Some of the concerns surrounding players not having internet reliable enough to stream this new title or the money needed to buy an Xbox Series X/S system or a good enough gaming PC are legitimate, but the idea that Kojima owes his “loyalty” to one console or gaming company seem quite silly – especially since he has stated that Kojima Productions is an independent company not tied to a certain platform.
