PlayStation DualSense Controllers Can Now Be Updated On PC Without A PS5

This update removes the minor annoyance of needing to deal with the PS5’s update screen. If the player boots up the console by using the power button on a DualSense that hasn’t been updated, then they have to go through a prompt screen, before they can go to the user menu or home screen. It’s possible to make the PS5 delay any further updates for 24 hours, but the player will keep facing this screen until they perform the firmware update. The people who have their PS5 tucked away in an entertainment center no longer have to mess around with the system whenever a controller update is released.
Like the Xbox Series X/S controller, the DualSense is a great choice for playing games on PC. The unique DualSense features, like haptic feedback and adaptive controllers, are even available on the Steam client for compatible games. Once the PlayStation Plus service overhaul launches in June, the PlayStation Now PC app will hopefully be updated for wireless DualSense support. Sony has talked about its future support of the PC platform, with older PS4 and PS5 exclusives coming in the future, so it’s a good sign that the DualSense has PC-specific apps to allow it to run without a PlayStation 5.
