PlayStation’s new game preservation team will “ensure our industry’s history isn’t forgotten”

According to the new employee, PlayStation has formed a ‘preservation team’.

Yesterday Garrett Fredley announced that he is now joining PlayStation as Senior Build Engineer. Fredley previously worked as a build engineer for mobile game developer Kabam. In a tweet sharing the news, Fredley also announced that he was one of the first to join PlayStation’s new game preservation team.

“Today is my first day at PlayStation as a Senior Build Engineer as one of the first hires of the newly formed Preservation team,” said Fredley!

Today is my first day working at @PlayStation as a Senior Build Engineer and as one of the first employees on the newly formed Preservation team! Game preservation was my first professional passion, and I’m happy to be able to go back to its roots 😊April 25, 2022

He went into a little more detail in a LinkedIn post shared by Resetera’s user Smitch, explaining that the game’s preservation team aims to “make our industry’s history unforgettable.” He also thanked PlayStation Global Quality Assurance Manager Mike Bishop for including him on the team.

“Game preservation was my first professional passion. It was my first foray into the world of Software Engineering/Dev Ops and a world not many people knew about. I was just a beginner at the time, and despite my inexperience, I contributed in every way I could. Now I’m back, not the newbie I used to be.”

“Thanks to Mike Bishop and the team for bringing me on this adventure. Let’s go so that the history of our industry will not be forgotten!”

We don’t yet know exactly what role the game preservation team will play in the absence of an official announcement, but that could mean bringing more from the brand’s back catalog to the new console. This could be linked to the rebranding of the PlayStation Plus, which focuses more on PlayStation’s past with a library of over 700 games including PS1, PS2 and PSP Classics. A new team may be working on bringing these older games to a subscription service.

The new PlayStation Plus will be released in June. we all round PS Plus Premium and Extra games confirmed so far.
