Pokemon Go Therian Forme Thundurus Raid Counters and movesets

This Pokemon Go Therian Form Thundurus Raid counter will help you catch one of the three legendary natural forces in the Unova area. It’s returning to Pokemon Go Raids, but instead of the usual Incarnate form, the Legendary will appear in Therian form for Pokemon Go.

Like Tornadus and his Therian form, Thundurus has a slightly different shape and movement than his Incarnate form. Due to the new technology, your counters for this Thundurus will be slightly different than when you took his incarnation form.

Therian Forme Thundurus returns to the Raids from Tuesday, April 5 through Tuesday, April 12, so trainers can fight and conquer as many as they can.

But don’t worry. We’ve put together this guide to help trainers find the best counters to face Therian Forme Thundurus.

pokemon go thunderous raid counter

Like its incarnation form, Therian Forme Thundurus is an Electric and flying-type Pokémon. This unique type is only weak to two types: rock and ice.

Luckily, there are a couple of Mega Pokémon to help trainers defeat Therian Forme Thundurus more easily, but choosing them is a double-edged sword.

Mega Aerodactyl is the only Rock-type Mega in Pokemon Go so far. This perk can bolster the attacks of you and other teams, making it the first Pokémon to use a rock-type movement. However, Mega Aerodactyl is weak against Electro-type attacks, and Thunderus-type Thunderus should have enough.

As Pokemon Go’s only Ice-type Mega so far, Mega Abomasnow can deal with Therian Forme Thundurus’ Ice weakness and improve his team’s moves. Mega Abomasnow’s Grass-types are resistant to Electric-type attacks, but the Lian Pome Tundurus has a way to hurt them, but that’s covered in the section below.

Trainers looking for a non-mega option should check out the Rock-type Pokémon staple. Tyranitar, Rhyperior, Rampardos and Gigalith are all fantastic options against Thundurus. However, Legendary has a chance to hurt him with one or more of his moves.

For trainers looking to bring an ice-type team, staples like Mamoswine, Weavile, and Galarian Darmanitran are easy choices.

Below is a list of options available to trainers when fighting Therian Forme Thundurus.

Therian Forme Thunurus Moveset

Interestingly, Therian Forme Thundurus doesn’t have any flying type skills available, despite having a flying type. This will be helpful for any grass or fighting type that wants to get its trainer into battle. However, like many other legends, Therian Forme Thundurus has a variety of moves.

For his quick attack, the trainer needs to know the bolt switch. This move gains a flux bonus and deals good damage to Pokémon that are not Grass, Dragon, Electric, or Ground types. Bite is another quick attack option for Therian Forme Thundurus and doesn’t really help Legendary. In fact, Pokémon like Weavile and Tyranitar will resist this attack.

It is his charge attack that can turn the fight in favor of Thundurus. Since Thunder and Thunderclap are capable of two electric attacks, a Pokémon that can withstand counterattacks is like the Volt Switch. Sludge Wave is a poison-type attack that rock-types resist. The Rock team could benefit from Thundurus using this move, but Mega Abomasnow is really weak.

Focus Blast is the last charge attack option. This combat type of movement actually deals very effective damage to ice and rock types. Fighting Tundurus with this attack can be a long fight. However, since there is only a 25% chance, the trainer will still have to fight rock or ice type teams.

Therian Forme Thundurus, like its Incarnate Forme, is an Electric and Flying-type Pokemon. This unique typing makes it weak to just two types: Rock and Ice.
Luckily, there are two Mega Pokemon that can help trainers take down Therian Forme Thundurus easier but there is a double-edged sword in picking them.
Mega Aerodactyl is the only Rock-type Mega in Pokemon Go so far. This specialty makes it the premiere Pokemon to utilize Rock-type moves as it can also boost the moves of your and others’ teams. However, Mega Aerodactyl is weak to Electric-type attacks, something Therian Forme Thundurus will have plenty of in spades.
Mega Abomasnow is the only Ice-type Mega, so far, in Pokemon Go and can handle Therian Forme Thundurus’ Ice weakness as well as boost the moves of your team. Mega Abomasnow’s Grass typing does make it resistant to Electric-type attacks, but Therian Forme Thundurus will have ways to hurt it, but we’ll get into that in the section below.
Trainers searching for non-Mega options should look at the staple of Rock-type Pokemon. Tyranitar, Rhyperior, Rampardos and Gigalith are all amazing options to take on Thundurus. However, the Legendary will have ways to hurt it with at least one of its moves.
For trainers looking to bring a team of Ice types, staples like Mamoswine, Weavile and Galarian Darmanitran are easy choices.

Interestingly enough, Therian Forme Thundurus does not have any Flying-type moves it can use despite it having that typing. This benefits any Grass or Fighting types trainers want to bring into battle. However, Therian Forme Thundurus, like many other Legendaries, will have a variety of different moves.
For its Fast Attacks, trainers have to be aware of Volt Switch. This move will get the STAB bonus and will deal good damage against any Pokemon that’s not a Grass, Dragon, Electric or Ground type. Bite is Therian Forme Thundurus’ other Fast Attack option and won’t really benefit the Legendary much. In fact, Pokemon like Weavile and Tyranitar will resist this attack.
What could turn the tides of battle in Thundurus’ favor is in its Charged Attacks. Thunder and Thunderbolt are two Electric-type attacks it can use, so which Pokemon resist and do well against it are the same as with Volt Switch. Sludge Wave is a Poison-type move that Rock types will resist. Rock-type teams will benefit for Thundurus having this move while Mega Abomasnow is actually weak to it.
Focus Blast is the final Charged Attack option. This Fighting-type move will actually deal super effective damage against Ice and Rock types. If you fight a Thundurus that has this move, you may be in for a long fight. However, since there’s just a 25 percent chance it will have it trainers should still go into battle with either a Rock or Ice-type team.
