Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Variants Can Be Based On Time & Not Just Region
In the current line-up of Pokémon, there are some that are already based upon ancient beings. Pokémon like Aerodactyl, Tyrunt, and Mamoswine are based on Pterodactyls, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Mammoths, respectively. While these Pokémon already exist, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may give fans versions of modern-day Pokémon that existed in the ancient past.
Some present-day Pokémon could have ancient variants based on real-world animals in Scarlet and Violet. Sharpedo could have an ancient variant based on the Megalodon where its size is increased to that of a Wailord. Doduo and Dodrio could become shorter, stockier, and change the shape of their beak to more resemble a Dodo bird. There is also an opportunity for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to introduce ancient variants of more futuristic-looking Pokémon, like in Legends: Arceus with Voltorb and Electrode. Many of the Steel-type and Electric-type Pokémon could easily have a more ancient variant, like a steampunk-style Magnemite or an Aegislash based on primitive weapons.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet also have an opportunity to correct the wrongly-assembled fossil Pokémon from Sword and Shield. Instead of giving players mixed-up versions like Arctozolt and Dracovish, players could finally see what the real full Pokémon looked like. This would also be an opportunity to highlight Pokémon from some of the oldest fossils in the games.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Can Have Futuristic Pokémon Regional Variants
Many Pokémon in the current National Pokédex have a somewhat futuristic theme or appearance to them. With Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, fans may have an opportunity to see variants of some of their favorite Pokémon with a more futuristic feel. This could even lead to some Pokémon having new types. One way that some current Pokémon could be given a futuristic look is by changing up their typing. Litwick and its evolutions could change from a Fire-type to an Electric-type and have its flames replaced with LEDs or light bulbs. Rock-type Pokémon could have variants that are Steel instead, like how Onix evolves into a Steelix.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can expand on the variant concept by bringing time-variant Pokémon to the mix. With Scarlet and Violet‘s Legendary Pokémon themed around the ancient past and the future, this is a chance to see even more variations of the current Pokémon that exist. Hopefully, along with all of the new Pokémon players will see in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, some new variant types will make their appearance as well.
