Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support is coming to the PlayStation 5 with this week’s OS update, coming soon to new games such as: death loop, Little Tina’s Wonderland, And Call of Duty: Vanguard. Announced back in March, VRR support synchronizes the PS5’s graphics output with the refresh rate of a compatible TV. The result is sharper images with fewer artifacts or noticeable performance degradation.
Console updates, usually released on Tuesday, will bring VRR support this week, Sony Interactive Entertainment said on the PlayStation blog on Monday. After that, the game will be patched to support that feature. Sony says the next game will be updated “in the next few weeks” to support variable refresh rates.
- Astro’s Playroom
- call of duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- fate 2
- Devil May Cry 5 special edition
- dust 5
- goddess
- wonder‘s Spiderman remaster
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Crack Separation
- Resident Evil Village

Also Arkane Studio said on monday that death loopPlayStation exclusive games released in September now support VRR.
VRR requires both a PS5 and an HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible TV (or PC monitor). After a PS5 system update, players can find the option in the Screen & Video tab of the System Settings menu. VRR can also be applied to PS5 games that are not officially supported. You can improve the video quality, but if not, you can disable this feature in the settings menu (via the “Apply to unsupported games” switch).

Games already released on the PlayStation 5 may support VRR through a patch, Sony said, and future games may support VRR at launch.
Popular games not yet listed on the PS5’s VRR support page are: Elden Ring; In March, the Digital Foundry found that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X were struggling to sustain 60fps performance in-game, and recommended Xbox Series X users to leverage VRR support on their consoles “to compensate for the drop in performance” I did.
