QuakeCon, the annual fan convention celebrating the video game franchises of id Software and Bethesda Softworks, returns in August. Like last year’s event, QuakeCon 2022 will be entirely digital. That is, there are no face-to-face conventions and no BYOCs bring their own computer (LAN) party.
QuakeCon 2022 will be streaming on Twitch from August 18-20.
In a statement released today on Bethesda’s QuakeCon page, the company said that although this year’s event will be digital-only, it’s committed to returning QuakeCon to a non-recurring festival in 2023. This is not the first time in the history of the competition. QuakeCon 2020 and QuakeCon 2021 were both online-only events in response to the coronavirus pandemic, so QuakeCon was a remote event.
“Like you, we were disappointed not to be able to return to Dallas this year,” Bethesda said. “An event of this size would require months of planning, in which case we had to make a decision with still too much uncertainty to successfully host a QuakeCon in person.”
QuakeCon 2022 will feature a live stream program, online dating, sweepstakes, charitable donations and a BYOC virtual party. Bessda has announced that more details about this year’s QuakeCon will be announced in June.
