Richard Nixon Hunts JFK’s Assassin In Animated Nixed Trailer

The trailer for Nixed sees President Richard Nixon on the hunt for John F. Kennedy’s assassin. Nixed is the creation of Mike Davis, who previously directed Clive Owen’s over-the-top action movie Shoot ‘Em Up. Davis wrote and directed Nixed, which he impressively animated by hand himself over the course of four years, giving the film a unique look. Drawing inspiration from famous political cartoons from the Nixon era, like those of Herbert Block, the film aims to set itself apart from mainstream animation.

Nixed features the voices of Rick Zieff as Nixon and Richard Epcar as Kennedy. The film is described as an adult animated political cartoon where Nixon believes the same shadow government that had JFK assassinated is out to get him. In an effort to save his own life, Nixon begins to investigate JFK’s murder, racking up a list of suspects that includes the CIA, the mob, Lee Harvey Oswald, and J. Edgar Hoover. Nixed includes a wide range of real life figures, from those already mentioned to surprising faces like Bill Clinton and Frank Sinatra.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The trailer for Nixed, shared by Davis (via Collider), highlights the distinct animation as it wastes no time in telling viewers that it is “Based on a mostly true story.” Opening with an attempt on Nixon’s life, the President is then spurred into action, listing off suspects he states he must expose to save his life. Overall, the Nixed trailer pulls no punches, especially when it highlights the other real-world characters featured in the film. Check out the trailer for Nixed below:

Nixed is set to premiere on June 14 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. However, Davis intends to launch an NFT campaign later in the year to help fund distribution costs and get an additional voice actor. Nixed currently doesn’t have a release date, but further details will be forthcoming as the project develops. Should the campaign prove to be successful, audiences can perhaps anticipate seeing Nixed at some point within the next year or so.

Davis’ animation for Nixed, while perhaps most reminiscent of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, definitely stands apart from the styles audiences are most familiar with. The political cartoon aspect is fitting for the subject matter, and while the wild approach to Kennedy’s assassination and Nixon’s response might not win over purists, there will likely be an audience for the borderline blasphemous (and hilarious) tale. The Nixed trailer tells a shocking story, and it will be interesting to see how it actually unfolds should the film gain an official release someday.
