Snapchat Filter Turns Red Dead Redemption 2 Into Comedy Gold
A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has used a Snapchat filter on protagonist Arthur Morgan and some NPCs to great comedic effect. Rockstar’s games are known for their moments of often satirical humor, and can often divulge in over-the-top goofy moments anyway. However, the addition of this filter has transformed some of RDR2‘s more serious moments into comedy gold.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018 it was praised for what can be a rich, somewhat emotional tale of Arthur Morgan’s rise from hated outlaw to reformed anti-hero during the fall of the Van der Linde Gang, depending on how honorable the players choose to be. Its graphics are also some of Rockstar’s best yet, with the studio taking 8 years to develop the game and using references from real locations and motion capture.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
Because of the emotional weight behind a lot of moments in Red Dead Redemption 2, and the high graphical quality, when Redditor Codyhman3 (via Game Rant) chose to add Snapchat’s “Shook” filter to the game, it had hilarious results. When used, the “Shook” filter warps the appearance of whoever it is directed at causing their eyes to bug out and their mouths to excessively curve downwards in a sort of half-smile and half-grimace and is based upon the classic British TV character Mr. Bean. Naturally, these goofy moments feel somewhat out of place when used in moments where Arthur Morgan takes an NPC as a human shield or holds a parrot he has recently hunted; however, it’s this juxtaposition that adds to its comedic charm.

The results have gone down well with fellow Redditors, who have drawn comparisons to Willem Dafoe’s bearded look in The Lighthouse, or the Founding Titan from Attack On Titan. Others took the opportunity to bash the more cartoony model design seen in the recent, much-maligned Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy remasters with their comparisons. This isn’t the only Red Dead Redemption 2 content shared by Codyhman3 recently, as they have posted other amusing moments from their gameplay such as Arthur Morgan doing the lift move from Dirty Dancing with a North American beaver.
The rich world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still popular with fans 4 years on from its release, and whilst many are disappointed by the lack of attention paid to its online component Red Dead Online, many are still enjoying exploring the fictional Western world as either Arthur Morgan or John Marston in the single player’s open-world. Because of this, many are hoping that the recent leaks and rumors surrounding an upgrade for Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 turn out to be true as it would bring what is already a visually-stunning game to a whole other level.
