Spider-Man Remaster Brings Webhead to PC

At today’s PlayStation State of Play event, Insomniac confirmed that its beloved open-world action game Marvel’s Spider-Man will be coming to PC on August 12, 2022. The game was originally released as a PS4 exclusive in 2018, and received a remaster for PS5 alongside the release of its sequel, Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Insomniac’s interactive take on the iconic superhero is not stopping with these two games, however, as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is confirmed to be in development. This game will reportedly feature a much darker tone than its predecessors, as both of the franchise’s Spider-Men go head to head with menacing villains such as Kraven the Hunter and the alien symbiote Venom. Speculation about this game is rampant, as players ponder how the game will handle two different playable heroes, what other villains might show up, and even what Venom’s secret identity might be in this iteration of the Spider-Man mythos.

But while fans speculate on the nature of the sequel, latecomers to the franchise now have a chance to catch up before it releases. During Sony’s recent PlayStation State of Play event, it was confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is coming to PC on August 12th. The trailer showcased many of the game’s hallmarks, including the character interactions that have made the title’s iteration of Peter Parker one of the most beloved, and action sequences showcasing some of the many villains Spider-Man must defeat to protect New York City. The trailer also featured footage from Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s DLC expansions, indicating that they’ll appear on PC as well.

This is only the most recent PlayStation exclusive to get a PC release later in its life. Titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War have famously appeared on PC before this; God of War in particular has proven popular with the PC modding community, who have found enjoyment interrupting the game’s brooding, melancholy atmosphere with comedic and surreal memes and jokes. This ever-increasing supply of PlayStation exclusive games is part of a committed initiative which shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon; Sony has announced its intent to feature half of all PlayStation games on PC by 2025.

There’s a long list of PlayStation games that many fans would probably like to see on PC; Bloodborne has been an oft-requested title for the platform ever since its PS4-exclusive release all the way back in 2015. Only time will tell how much of Sony’s past it is interested in translating to PC, but the port of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a sign that it has no intention of limiting its ambitions any time soon. In the meantime, fans of the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler will likely enjoy the opportunity to swing through New York City on PC when the port launches this August.
