Supergirl’s Zombie Transformation Finally Corrupts DC’s Wholesome Hero
Supergirl has not been a major part of the DCeased trilogy so far, briefly appearing in the Fortress of Solitude with the gathered heroes in the pages of DCeased #4, but has made no appearances since. In a trailer for DCeased: War of the Dead Gods Supergirl can be seen, still human, running from the zombified New Gods, desperately trying to stay alive. The second volume of the series, DCeased: Dead Planet, ended with Jon Kent, Damian Wayne, Cassie Sandmark, Cassandra Cain, and other heroes rescuing Cyborg and creating a cure for the Anti-Life Equation, but not before Darkseid assaulted the New Gods, turning them all into evil mega-powerful undead beings. This means that Mattina’s disturbing portrait of Kara could be a prediction of her future, although comic covers are known to trick readers, and since a cure for the Anti-Life disease was found in DCeased: Dead Planet, hopefully Kara won’t stay too long as a zombie if she is turned. Supergirl has all the powers and strength of Superman, meaning she could easily wipe out all of humankind if she wanted to, so Kara becoming a semi-mindless monster hell-bent on destroying life would not be a good thing for planet Earth.
Supergirl is often seen on Prime Earth as a symbol of hope, like her cousin Kal-El, and her heroic spirit has kept her alive and on the side of good in other apocalyptic alternate realities such as Injustice or the ongoing DC Vs. Vampires series. With an army of undead gods behind Darkseid one can only hope that Supergirl’s wholesome nature and strong heart keeps her safe from becoming a new “Face of Death.”
