Autosteer is essentially a more advanced version of Cruise Control which looks to intelligently assess and ensure a vehicle remains in the right lane by detecting lane markings and other vehicles and objects.
While the report paints a good picture of the capabilities of Tesla’s solutions and their safety, many of these features are still considered beta products. More importantly, they are considered features that should only be used in conjunction with an alert and aware driver. As for when Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving will be ready to completely take over at the wheel, that remains to be seen, although more findings like this might go some way to helping consumers and regulators become more comfortable with the idea.
