Sword of Azrael #1, due for release in August, is written by Dan Watters and illustrated by Nikola Čižmešija. If this creative team looks familiar, it’s Watters and Čižmešija working together on “Sword of Azrael: Dark Knight of the Soul,” the trilogy tale of Batman: Urban Legends #8-10, leading to the new Sword. Azrael Six’s lead-part series.
And Jean-Paul raises his sword again, but he does it reluctantly. But hey, these are cartoons. Retirement, like death, is usually temporary.
“The warrior angel of St. Dumas is back!” DC’s comments on the new series are read. “Jean-Paul Valley doesn’t want to be Azrael again. All that’s brought him is pain, violence and misery. He retired to a European monastery in search of peace. But with the same systems programming that made Azrael Jean-Paul When a young woman who claims to have arrived at the convent, he has no choice but to put on Azrael’s savage cloak once more to protect her from a deadly assassin who wants her to be harmed.”
Azrael is, of course, best known for his role as the hingeless, violent Batman, replacing Bruce Wayne in the 1993-1994 Knightfall storyline after Bane broke Batman’s back.
The character was first introduced in the ’92-’93 Batman: Sword of Azrael Limited series by legendary Batman writer and editor Denny O’Neil and later Marvel Comics editor Joe Quesada.
DC promises to redefine what the series calls “one of the most iconic and wildest characters” in the Batman universe.
All of this sounds like a potential new Azreal to us… and the Azrael title and St. His new relationship with Jean-Paul is a long one, given the detrimental psychological condition known as “The System” imposed by the Order of Dumas. Hereditary role Valley family.
