Tunic beginner’s guide, tips, and tricks

Stamina is key: dodge, block, sprint and lock
At the start of your adventure in Tunic, you only have to worry about two resource bars: health (pink/red) and stamina (green). For the latter, it will slowly wear out as you dodge (by pressing A on an Xbox controller) or when you block attacks with a shield (RT).
When nearly depleted, the stamina bar flashes red. Your character will only be able to jump, while taking more damage from hits. If you need to avoid dating, you can hold A to sprint.

Since we’re also talking about general combat mechanics, you’ll spot a button prompt above enemies’ heads. You can press LT to lock so you can engage specific targets.
You can activate Safe mode and No stamina restrictions through the Accessibility panel. This will prevent your character from losing HP and stamina.
Use potions and equip tools

As for your health, it is restored whenever you interact with shrines (more on shrines later), as well as when you use potions.
When you get full potion bottles, you get a single charge. During this time, the broken ones (potion shards) must be collected. You can acquire three potion shards to receive an additional charge. Interacting with shrines will also refresh all charges.

TunicAreas usually have multiple shrines. If you have ever played FromSoftware games, including Ring of Elden, then you can think of them as bonfires or sites of grace. They will replenish your HP and potion flasks, but they will also respawn enemies.

As for the teleporters, they are the large golden squares on a raised platform. When you step on it, nothing happens. However, if you hold down the A button, you will be transported to another realm. There you will find other teleporters that you can access.

Finally, you can interact with telescopes to give you a clear view of an area. You will spot several enemies and possibly some chests as well. An important tidbit here is to search for hidden nooks, ledges, or paths when you’re about to dive deeper into another area.

Speaking of hidden paths, be sure to check out the lay of the land. For example, there is a shrine in front of the Sealed Temple in the first area of ​​the game. Your first instinct might be to descend the steps to cross the bridge, only to find that the way is blocked. However, if you look at the waterfall from the side, you will be able to pass under it through a hidden nook, leading you to the western part of this area.

Also be on the lookout for puzzle doors. These look like gray murals with strange symbols. The idea is to use your controller’s D-pad to press the correct buttons.
You can see an example above where we marked the starting point on the left side of the mural. All you have to do is press up, right, down, left, down, and right on the D-pad to open the door.
Coins: Purchase from Merchant, Death, and Lost Currency

You can accumulate coins in Tunic breaking objects like vases, opening certain chests and clearing mobs. The currency is used to buy items from the merchant. A merchant location at the start of the game is the Windmill, which is west of the Sealed Temple.
Of course, since there are challenges along the way, your character might end up dying. If this happens, you will lose all coins you have and you will respawn at the nearest shrine.
Similar to FromSoftware games, you will have to return to where you died. Your character’s ghost will be there, and pressing the A button will restore your coins and also trigger an explosion that damages nearby opponents.
