Unreleased Black Adam trailer sees Hawkman confront Dwayne Johnson’s murderous superhero
CinemaCon attendees have a new perspective on the entire host of upcoming DC movies, including Shazam! Wrath of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. They also got a sneak peek at the trailer for Black Adam’s first appearance when Dwayne Johnson came to a Las Vegas event to introduce Sizzle Reel.
According to the comic book, the teaser opens with a scene of a frozen tundra where a futuristic ship launches across the sky. Then amputated by Black Adam (Johnson) in a water tube, saying, “I was a slave when I died. When I was reborn, I was a god.”
Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate appears and tells Adam that his powers did nothing but destroy, opening a portal similar to Marvel’s Doctor Strange. In the flashback, Adam’s past ego appears to be thrown into a pit before returning to modern times and waking up from the grave, electrifying the Black Ops team that surrounds him. During the murder, Adam knocks down a helicopter, grabs missiles in flight and throws them back at enemies.
Following an action scene from the Justice Society of America, Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman approaches Black Adam and says, “There are heroes and there are villains. Heroes don’t kill people.”
“all right.” Black Adam shyly answers.
On stage, Johnson said, “It’s great to wait and watch these other stories and other superheroes unfold and educate ourselves about how we’re moving forward with Black Adam and the story we wanted to tell. So this is really my dream. It’s been my dream… It’s one of the things that gets me out of bed in my life, and it ignites that passion. It makes me a burner. And I know there are a lot of burners in this room.”
“We talked about how the Black Adam, the power hierarchy in the DC universe, will change. It’s not too far-fetched and it’s not an exaggeration,” he said. “If you watch the movie and the characters, you will understand what I mean.
“[Director] When I met him about 4-5 years ago, it was Jaume Collet-Serra. He said, “Who is your favorite actor?” I said ‘Clint Eastwood’ and he said ‘I’m glad you said that because you see Black Adam as the dirty harry of the superhero world’. And it was our North Star in many ways.”
Black Adam is slated to release in the United States on October 21, 2022. To prepare, read our handy guide on how to watch DC movies in order.
