Embry is a simple man: Those who treat him well are received with warmth, and those who betray him could face his wrath. Stealing anything off of Embry results in him sending thugs after the Dragonborn. But no player should ever need to resort to thieving off of Embry when he will gladly reward them once his cup is filled with alcohol. Embry randomly hands out five Septim to players he has a strong relationship with, and he will even put the Dragonborn in his will if his request for ale is met. The payout is not much – he is the village drunkard, after all – but its the sentiment that counts.

The town of Riverwood thinks in the same way as Embry, for they reward players who fulfill his needs. This is especially true of the Sleeping Giant Inn.
